Deborah was wonderful! From the consultation call all the way through to the final judgement, Deborah was responsive and on top of all the intricacies needed for my case. Deborah’s sound legal advice saved a ton of unnecessary procedural headaches and got us to the finish line quickly. I highly recommend using the Katz Legal group and will do so again in the future.

As you can imagine, the legal matter comes with a huge frustration, a lot of stress and lots of unpleasant time. Sometimes, well most of the time, when we end up in this situation, we can be extremely rude and inpatient. Well, when it comes to hire someone to deal with your problems a lot of times lawyers just saying "ohh, well, don't be a silly jerk just sign it" however this approach is NOT acceptable, it is all about your life in a long time. I have been in that situation but i was lucky enough to find Deborah who isn't just helped me but also explained to me in very fine details all the implication of making one or other decision moving forward, she was so patient with me and helped me to make educated decision and not just a "whatever" approach. I'm so grateful that i have had such lawyer who helped me to deal with a craziness of our laws and next to nothing protection of me as a citizen. To conclude, if you are looking for a solution in your life, long term solution so Deborah A. Katz is your answer and great help. I would recommend her not just a 100% but 200% or even more.

I am incredibly grateful to have had Marc represent me in a highly contentious custody case that resulted in a life-changing outcome. What began as a custody case quickly evolved into a complex, multi-day trial with my ex-wife filing for permanent removal from Massachusetts and multiple states being involved. With Marc’s representation, I was awarded full physical custody and final decision-making authority in legal matters concerning my Child. Prior to Marc taking my case, I had no custodial rights over my daughter and no guaranteed visitation schedule. My case was far from an easy one as I felt like my rights as a father had been completely given up. Marc demonstrated unparalleled expertise in probate law throughout the entire process. He meticulously prepared my case, reviewed the history, and presented it compellingly in court. His knowledge of family law and probate procedures was evident in every strategy and argument presented. Marc’s intimate knowledge of the probate courts in Massachusetts and his focus on the legal facts were key to the outcome of my case. Marc’s dedication and personal investment in my case were clearly evident from the beginning. He took the time to understand the nuances of my situation, showing genuine empathy and support. Marc was readily available throughout the process and always kept me informed and answered the multitude of questions I had throughout the case. Marc’s communication was always clear and realistic throughout the process. Marc provides honest assessments of what can be hoped for in a case and appreciates the entirety of a situation. I never felt like Marc was exaggerating the prospects of a potential outcome; his immediate honesty surrounding the difficulty of my case was reassuring to hear as I understood what I was seeking for an outcome. His ability to break down the complex legal terminology into relevant ideas and the core components allowed me to better understand what was happening throughout the process. His communication was clear and reassuring, keeping me informed and involved at every stage of the proceedings. Thanks to Marc’s representation and commitment, I now have the opportunity to provide a stable and loving environment for my daughter. I cannot recommend Marc highly enough to anyone facing similar challenges in probate court. He is not just a lawyer but a true advocate for his clients who displays a genuine care about you and your family.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Wellesley, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
