When our son called to tell us that he was facing some legal charges, we reached out to a Boston friend and were given Kelly's name. She was super responsive and gave us a clear picture of our son's circumstance. With her strong relationships in the legal community, she negotiated a plan for our son to enter a treatment facility (which we had been trying to get him to for some time) and delay the arraignment hearing. Kelly communicated with his therapeutic team during treatment and kept the prosecutor informed of this progress. After his completion of the program, the charges were dismissed. We will always be so grateful for Kelly's counsel and support during this very difficult time. Happily, our son got the help he needed and a second chance to complete his education and move forward in life. ~ Laura L.

I reached out to Attorney Cloutier in a time of need when a real estate deal fell through. Attorney Cloutier took the time to come meet me at my house and went through what our options were. Attorney Cloutier was able to get all my money back in a timely manner, I will be using his services in the future, and will refer him in the future.

I had a wonderful experience working with the Banfield Hung Law Firm. Alejandra and Patrick are wonderful people and provided me with all the information and support I needed throughout my case. They listened and cared about what I had to say, and thoroughly answered all my questions. Having them on my side helped alleviate my anxiety throughout the process. I am so grateful for the Banfield Hung Law Firm for getting me the emotional vindication and financial retribution that helped me put that difficult time behind me.

In 2022 my previous employer stopped paying their employees. After several months of going unpaid, I reached out to several firms to understand my legal rights. Banfield Hung Law Firm was the only one that actively listened to me. Throughout the entire process, Patrick and Alejandra were frank and straightforward with me: explaining the process, weighing my options, and outlining next steps. They were able to answer all my questions and were quick to turn around ones that required a bit of looking into. We were in constant communication and they never hesitated if I had to speak to them at night or on the weekend. Patrick and Alejandra were humane throughout the entire process and a source of comfort during a very stressful period; they kept reassuring me that I was doing the right thing. I always felt they had my best interest in mind. I highly recommend Banfield Hung Law Firm and would use them again should I ever have any issues with my employer.

Martsyl Joseph is a very conscientious lawyer who doesn't just look at all the legal aspects of a case, but also realizes that there are individuals involved. She is very responsive to any e-mails, phone calls, texts or requests to meet in person. In my particular case she actually came to the site that was being contested and that is the personal touch that she provides. Therefore when she represents you in court, you know that she knows the situation first hand and can speak about it effectively and understands the gravity of the matter because she took the time to know your particular situation personally. Martsyl Joseph also let's you know when she isn't always sure about a legal aspect of the case, however she gets back to you as soon as she does the research for the best course of action. There wasn't any aspect of her representation that was unsatisfactory. I certainly would recommend Martsyl Joseph to anyone else that I know either just needs legal advice or representation.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of West Roxbury, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
