I hired Irena midway through my divorce. She quickly brought herself up to speed and hit the ground running to get my case settled as soon as possible. Irena was kind, honest, and supportive. She gave me her cell number and was very responsive to my questions and concerns. I often felt like I was her only client--though I know that wasn't the case. The divorce itself was awful but having Irena on my side made me feel like I was going to get the best result despite the terrible situation. I'm grateful to Irena and her team at C, B, I, & B for seeing me through one of life's more unpleasant events with professionalism and compassion.

Irena Inman is a diamond in the rough. I have not had a lot of experience working with lawyers (thankfully) but if I ever have to in the future, they will be held to a high standard as Irena has set the bar incredibly high. Her knowledge, commitment, and passion for helping others is beyond compare. She will take the time to listen to you, place no judgement and will offer you all the options you possibly can and will always check with you to make sure that the choice you have made is with certainty as she doesn't ever want you to regret your decision. I hired Irena to help me with my divorce case and she was respectful to the other party, provided clear directions and even indicated some possible outcomes, which is quite insightful since I did not know what could happen. It certainly speaks to her breadth of knowledge. Thank you so much for everything Irena. You're an angel without wings.

Attorney Barraco provided legal counsel for an emotionally/charged change in circumstances dispute. Not only was her professional expertise most impressive, but her ability to understand the issues at hand resulted in agreement without a trial. Her attention to detail and knowledge of the Worcester Courts and family law is unparalleled. At all times, I felt that she had the best interest of my family and especially my children at the forefront. Brilliant, calming and level headed all come to mind when describing her attributes. It has been a pleasure!

If you're not represented by Irena, you're already losing. For the past 5 years Irena has been involved in our child custody case in one way or another. Shes been there for us emotionally and legally during whats been the most difficult times of our lives. If you're looking for the warm and fuzzy feeling you probably wont find that with Irena. And truthfully, that's one of the things we like best about her- shes honest, she tells you like it is and she doesn't sugar coat because she understands how important it is for her clients to realize the situation that they are in. But you also wont find another attorney who out works her either. Our case was challenging to say the least. Irena was met with a tumultuous relationship between mother and father and an extremely combative opposing counsel. And by the time we had retained her for our last trial, she only had a few weeks to prepare. But you wouldnt know it. She did not miss a beat. She met with us several times during those few weeks leading up to trial, she studied our file incessantly and she also re read everything in the file late the night before our trial. She went as far as to enlisted other staff members in her firm to help with all the little stuff so that she could focus on the strategy behind the trial. We were nervous to say the least. But to no surprise, Irena was amazing at our trial! There really isnt any other way to describe it. She was focused on making us look like the better parent while opposing counsel focused in on our flaws. Irena positioned our case to be the stronger one by highlighting the most important aspects of the childs progress while opposing counsel lead with the childs lack of progress. Every single thing Irena did was calculated, purposeful and effective. We love how she doesnt waste her time berated the opposing side, and that her energy is spent position our case to the judge positively. Her litigation style is very professional, straight forward and concise. Shes one of the few attorneys I've known to be so incredibly effective with the little time shes given. And even after our trial when we were feeling down, sad and confused, she was there for us to pick up the pieces. She answered our calls the same day even though she had just spent 8 hours with us, and she responded via email over the weekend even though our trial had ended and she was no longer representing us. I feel as though we are forever indebted to Irena and her firm, CallahanBarraco. And I really hope that other people reach out to her when they need legal help because she really is the best. And trust me, if youre in a position where you are needing legal counsel, you want to spend the money on a team like Irena's because they come with the whole package. Thank you so much to Irena for getting us through the most emotional and hardest 5 years of our lives. We really are so grateful for you and everything you did for our case.

Pam has helped us twice. The first time was when we were looking for an attorney to do our will. The second time was to research attorneys in a western state when a family member had a significant medical issue.

I hired Attorney Nicole D. Sullivan in 2016 after suffering damage to my C-spine in a fall at work which required 3 discs to be fused with rods and screws to stabilize the vertebrae. In the same fall I was knocked out which caused a concussion and damaged both hips which were totally replaced in coming years. I was forced to retired early and my employer tried to deny my injuries were work related even though they sent me to Lawrence General Hospital via ambulance. They even refused to pay the ambulance cost until Attorney Sullivan pushed the issue. I am now receiving an Accidental Disability Retirement benefit that started in January of 2023. It was a long road with many medical procedures and Attorney Sullivan made sure I was paid and all medical bills paid! I will never be pain free but, my quality of life is better thanks to the offers of Attorney Sullivan and her associates. Highly recommended for workers comp issues!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Westborough, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
