Marvin helped my husband and me with our estate planning and establishing our trust. He was always articulate explaining our options and we felt he provided very practical, intelligent guidance on the best course of action for our family. His attention to detail made sure we not only had all the documents we needed but also allowed us to give the appropriate thought into how we wanted our estate to be structured. We really appreciated his tax law expertise as it related to our trust. Despite the pandemic, Marvin made the estate planning and trust formation process enjoyable; we felt we were in good hands throughout the entire process. He and his staff made it safe and easy to meet, and he was very responsive and accommodating to any questions or requests. We would highly recommend Marvin for any estate and trust needs and are grateful that he was recommended to us.

My wife and I were extremely pleased with the representation provided by Attorney Silver. Marvin was most thorough in his explanation of all details of estate planning, thus allowing us to choose the best plan for our purpurses. In particular, Marvin has a unique expertise in tax law that was invaluable to us as we sorted through the tax implications of estate planning. Marvin is personable, professional, detail oriented and trustworthy. When the time comes for an update of our estate plan, we will be working again with Marvin.

It what can often be a difficult conversation (estate planning and wills), Marvin was a fantastic resource and made sure we were thinking about things in a thoughtful and complete manner. Further, during this pandemic, he made working with him and his team easy and safe. For instance, since we could not do the final signing electronically, he arranged for us to do it in the parking lot of his office - a very creative solution that left us feeling safe but accomplished what we had to. Marvin was exceptionally easy to work with, professional and always looking out for us. We've already recommended him to all of our friends who do not yet have wills!

Marvin is a very knowledgeable attorney who guided my wife and I through the estate planning process. Although it's evident that he has a very thorough knowledge of estate law, he explained the process to us in a way that was easy for us to understand and made himself readily available to answer questions that we had for him. We will definitely employ his assistance for any future needs, and would recommend him to anyone looking for a smooth estate planning process!

In the Spring of 2019, I realized I was in need of a new Estate Plan. The one I had was not aligned well with my current personal and financial profile. Based on the recommendation of a friend, I reached out to Marvin Silver and scheduled an introductory meeting. That meeting took place May 30, 2019 with Marvin and myself. The purpose of the meeting was to certainly get to know each other, and to help me identify my goals, my wishes for the creation an Estate Plan. For me, the two most memorable recollections from that first encounter were: 1. I quickly realized Marvin possessed excellent listening skills...there was nothing I said that he passed over in a lightly manner...I was given ample time to develop my thoughts and wishes. 2. Marvin's "professional patience"! That is, I know there were more that a few instances where I asked the same question more than once. He always took the time to explain matters, again patiently. A second meeting took place on July 02, 2019. My wife H. joined us for that meeting. In retrospect I wish I had included H. in the first meeting as, my lack of doing so, forced Marvin to cover areas, again, for H's benefit. After the meeting, H and I both agreed that Marvin was the individual we needed to work with for our estate plan. Highly knowledgeable, professional, all presented in a patient manner! In August 2019, H and I received a draft copy of our Estate Plan which we reviewed. On September 17, 2019 a meeting with Marvin, H and myself took place to review the draft and make final edits. As I recall, the number of edits were 2 or 3, and minor in nature. This, I attribute to the quality of the up front prep work Marvin took H and I through, and again, the manner in which he did so! On October 04, 2019 we reconvened at Marvin's office and signed our new Estate Plan. We are most happy with it. Thank you Marvin for being our knowledgeable and patient guide through the process!

Katie is handling a real estate transaction for my wife and I. Turns out the sellers have missed on getting permits signed after work was done and a compliance form through the town of Shrewsbury. I would highly reccomend her. She is highly knowledgeable on this area and have had nothing but trust within the whole process. She looks at everything. Im a contractor and some of them I had missed. This is why she does what she does and i do what i do. A big thank you to Katie.......

We called Todd after we paid another attorney initial amount because I needed someone who can be trusted. Todd immediately won our trust and was completely selfless in providing us with the information that helped us with a comprehensive planning. He is honest and helpful with no-sales approach but focused on what his clients need. Thank you Todd for your help with the process.

Mr Rosenfield made me feel extremely comfortable explaining every detail of the trust and always made room for questions. Can be frightening as a widow to handle this alone. One or two in person meetings option for zoom and constant email connections with updates.

This attorney called me and gave me almost 20 minutes of free advice on what to do with my pet insurance claim denial. I consider that a green flag!

I hired Attorney Nicole D. Sullivan in 2016 after suffering damage to my C-spine in a fall at work which required 3 discs to be fused with rods and screws to stabilize the vertebrae. In the same fall I was knocked out which caused a concussion and damaged both hips which were totally replaced in coming years. I was forced to retired early and my employer tried to deny my injuries were work related even though they sent me to Lawrence General Hospital via ambulance. They even refused to pay the ambulance cost until Attorney Sullivan pushed the issue. I am now receiving an Accidental Disability Retirement benefit that started in January of 2023. It was a long road with many medical procedures and Attorney Sullivan made sure I was paid and all medical bills paid! I will never be pain free but, my quality of life is better thanks to the offers of Attorney Sullivan and her associates. Highly recommended for workers comp issues!

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Westborough, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
