Attorney Bill Kickham represented us in our first and hopefully only experience with the complex and sometimes harsh judicial system. He represented our son in a very serious legal matter and are thrilled with the successful outcome. Bill was patient, thorough and helped us understand the complexities of the law. He, and a partner who also supported us, took steps that saved us time from having to appear in court for administrative steps and pursued information that made for a strong position before the court; both helped reduce our stress during almost 7-month ordeal. Bill and his partner took the time to review evidence with our son and gave clear, straight-forward advise and coaching to our son. They ensured we fully understood the possible outcomes, helped set our expectations, and prepared us for the court date. Bill was personable and developed a positive relationship with us. Not only did we received five star legal representation and counsel, we also received moral support that really helped us through a very difficult time.

If you are here reading this review, you are probably in a jam and are looking for help in navigating the justice system. Same as you, I was in a situation where I had to go to court for an Assault and Battery Case. I could have been charged and sent to jail or even pay a hefty sum of money. I started to look online for attorneys, and I called a few offices. I never got a call back for some of them and some of them spoke to me but never called me back after. When I called Attorney William Kickham, he answered the phone himself, much to my surprise. He asked me a couple of questions and got all my information. He said he would look at my case and call me back. After going through this a few times with other attorneys, I was unsure about Bill calling me back, but in 24 hours he called me back and explained the pros and cons of the case and explained what I could expect. He didn’t even talk about the fee. He simply wanted me to have confidence that he could handle the case. He also went above and beyond to make time to drive to my house, sit with me and go over the case. He was patient in listening to me and took his time to answer all my questions. Long story short, he helped me get out of this situation by getting the case dismissed. Do yourself a favor, after reading the reviews here call Bill and speak with him. You will not be sorry, as a matter of fact he may end up saving you from unnecessary expenses.

Addressing legal issues is no one's idea of a good time: you're dealing with something important, and it can be stressful worrying about whether it's going to be done right, and whether you're going to be taken advantage of in the process. What you want is someone who knows his stuff cold, really takes your side, and treats you fairly and respectfully. That's Ed. He's done all our important contract work - and has helped me navigate an issue at municipal court. He's extremely efficient, explains it all in easy to understand terms, and helps you make the right decisions. It takes the stress out of the process - which is a big deal - and even more importantly, has gotten me successful outcomes (an even bigger deal!). Like finding a excellent and trustworthy doctor or a mechanic, you need to have a go-to guy as a lawyer. Ed is it. I fully recommend.

A friend referred me to Attorney Krippendorf because my case was complex and required someone who was sharp and skilled in both criminal and divorce law. Before I could focus on my divorce case and custody of my children, I had to overcome a criminal case that was wrongly brought against me. Nonetheless, Attorney Krippendorf guided me through the process and had the criminal case dismissed so we could then focus our efforts on the divorce proceedings. From the beginning, he wanted to understand my needs and what I wanted in the end. His strategy was based on that and throughout the process, he informed me on what we needed to do to achieve that. He communicated with me and answered all of my questions during this time. He was extremely responsive to me and proavtive in our cases. Divorce and custody battles are not easy things to go through, especially at the same time but I am happy with my experience with Attorney Krippendorf. He got me more than what this state typically awards a father. He understood what I wanted and he fought for it. For knowledgable, experienced and honest representation, I would strongly recommend Attorney Krippendorf.

I went through adjustment of status with Emmanuel. He gave me personal centered attention. He also created meeting time around my work schedule. He was available whenever I had a question either by phone, email or one on one. He prepared paperwork with my input and then went through with me as he prepared for interview. He paid attention to each and every detail leading to the approval of the case. I am very grateful to Emmanuel.

Michael is incredibly fast, to the point, and very helpful. I consulted him for an issue with a general contractor, which was time sensitive, and he got to the bottom of the issue within hours. You want him on your side.

Attorney Kraft recently represented me in court helping to recover some money that I am owed. I am so glad he was there with me. He knew all the right questions to ask and the way he assisted my husband and me was a tremendous help to us both. I have such confidence in him that I expect he will be helping me with further issues on this matter. I just feel more comfortable having Attorney Kraft by my side.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Westwood, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
