Gilbert Borman makes a lot of promises up front and he backs it up with tall tales of his many successes in the court room. But nothing could be farther from the truth. On my case, he did little to no work. The money I spent was wasted. Nothing said to me upfront transpired the way attorney Gilbert said it would. Attorney Gilbert Borman was a big disappointment and his ability to practice law should be avoided at all costs by the public.

I hired attorney Gilbert Borman awhile back. He is a member of the LGBT community and I met him at a rally. I hired him the following week after meeting him and listening to what he had to say. My case took 2 years to complete and the results were devastating to me. I will now have to pay the opposing side as opposed to them paying me. I would not recommend attorney Gilbert Borman

I met with attorney Borman at a coffee shop to discuss a dispute I was having with a vendor. I was taken for a lot of money. I did the work and my case was solid. Attorney Borman said he could get me over $100,000 dollars which was twice as much as I thought I deserved Soni said let's do it. I paid him his retainer and he said that would be the total fee 2 months later he kept asking for more and more money. I was stuck. He said he would leave the case if I did not pay him so I was so scared of him bullying me I paid and paid. The results of the case were I received less than half of what he kept telling me I would get. I was so disappointed. I later asked him several times to send me my documents back and to provide me with a work log of his time but he refuses. He won't take my phone calls and I just think that is wrong.

I hired attorney Borman to handle a business matter for me. I sold my business for a large profit and I discussed several issues I was concerned about with attorney Borman. His answers sounded correct so I paid him his retainer. The deal went down and it is a year later and I am being hounded by old creditors. Attorney Borman told me if I transferred my stock this would not happen. He guaranteed this. I called him several times and he has not returned my phone calls for over 7 months. I am very disappointed in the lack of his professionalism and lack of honesty and I would not recommend his services.

I hired attorney Borman awhile back. It was a real estate matter and he answered all my questions with confidence and he sounded like he knew what he was talking about so I paid him the retainer. He told me at that time it would be the total price for the case and nothing more. Well a few months into the case he started demanding more and more money. He even threatened me he would not move.forward without more money. Boy was I pissed. I asked him why and he had no good excuse. I paid him 3 more times and he did a fair to poor job. I would not recommend him

Brian is everything one would ever hope for in an attorney. He is highly competent, sensitive to clients, easy to talk to, approachable, and yet tenacious on the behalf of his clients. I was involved in a very complex matter, and Brian managed to navigate both me and my other associate through a very difficult time. We were both very pleased with the outcome. Best of all, Brian still found a way to leave both of us with a smile on our faces when the entire matter was settled. That is no small accomplishment in our time. I would recommend him without any reservations.

I have yet to use Anthony as my attorney, but he still took the time out of his busy schedule to listen to my situation and responded with a smile. The first time I met Anthony I knew right then and there he was an AMAZING MAN / ATTORNEY. He's proven that to be 100% CORRECT. He CARES about others and has the heart worth more than money could ever buy. I highly recommend Anthony. You will be HIGHLY satisfied, I promise.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Bingham Farms, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
