Tricia is an attorney who is able to explain the law in layman's terms so that I am able to understand the options and consequences of my situation. I considered bankruptcy and went to her for advice, based on a friend's recommendation. She took the time to review my background and came up with several solutions and options rather than just taking my money to file the paperwork. She is friendly, open, compassionate, and intelligent. Her vast experience with the law, from bankruptcy to property law, was a great help in dealing with my situation. I highly recommend Tricia.

When I was in trouble, I did not know what to do or where to turn. I was so lucky and fortunate that I came across Mr. Kaplan. He guided me through the difficult case, fought for me, advocated for me and got the results we needed. More importantly, he was there for me the entire time. Helping me with my case, but also personally to put me on a better path.

IN 2005 I WAS CHARGED WITH A DOUBLE DRIVE BY SHOOTING IN WHICH THE 2 VICTIMS NAMED ME AND TESTEFIED AGAINST ME AT MY TRIAL. ALSO HAD SEVERAL POLICE OFFICERS TESTIFY THAT IT WAS ME AND EVEN KNEW ME AND MY TRUCK PERSONALLY. MARK WORKED DAY AND NIGHT EVEN ON THE WEEKENDS I DONT EVEN THINK HE SLEPT TO UNDERSTAND WHAT HAD HAPPENED ON THAT EVENING. I WAS CHARGRED WITH 2 FELONIOUS ASSAULTS, FELONY FIREARM, AND DRUNK DRIVING. THAT IS A MANDATORY 2 YRS PRISON AND UP TO 30 YRS. I WAS FOUND NOT GUILTY ON ALL CHARGES ACQUITTED 100 PERCENT. THEN 4 YEARS LATER I WAS CHARGED WITH FELONIOUS ASSAULT ON A POLICE OFFICER FELONY FIREARM AND DISTRIBUTION OF MAIJUANA. I HAD STAYED VERY CLOSLY IN TOUCH WITH MARK SINCE MY LAST TRIAL FROM THE AHMAZING JOB HE HAD DONE SO ONCE AGAIN I HIRED HIM WITHOUT QUESTION. I WAS IN JAIL WITHOUT BOND ON THE WEEKEND PLUS MY STORY WAS ALL OVER EVER NEWS CHANNEL EVEN MSNBC AND SOMEHOW SOMEWAY MARK GOT ME OUT OF JAIL ON A SUNDAY FOR 1000 DOLLARS UNBELIEVABLE. THATS THE THING HE HAS SO MANY CONTACTS INCLUDING JUDGES THAT RESPECT HIM THAT ITS ALMOST MAGICAL WHAT HES CAPABLE OF DOING EVEN OUTSIDE OF BUSINESS HOURS I WOULD RECOMEND HIM TO ANYONE TIME AND TIME AGAIN HE REALLY CARES ABOUT PEOPLE. SO HERE I AM FACING A MANDATORY 2 YEARS IN PRISON OR UP TO 30 YEARS IF CONVICTED. NOW LAST TIME I USED A JURY TRIAL AND WON SO THATS WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO AGAIN RIGHT. NOPE MARK AGAIN WORKED DAY AND NIGHT ON MY CASE AND SAID IM GOING TO ADVISE YOU TO A BENCH TRIAL BUT ITS YOUR CHOICE I THOUGHT HE WAS CRAZY BUT LETS TRY IT. OMG AGAIN I WAS FOUND NOY GUILTY ON ALL CHARGES SO THATS RIGHT MARK HAS WON BOTH A JURY AND BENCH TRIAL WORKING AS MY ATTOURNEY AND I WILL CONTINUE TO USE AND RECOMEND HIM FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE AND PASS MY SAME WISHES TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

Marc Beginin is a phenomenal talent. He truly thinks "outside of the box" and brings a creative approach to all cases that he takes on. You will not find a more competent and dedicated lawyer. He grabs on to his cases with both hands and takes a personal interest in his clients. Beginin provided me with 24 hour counsel: Day, Night, Weekend, or Holiday...he was always available to discuss my case and my concerns. If you have found yourself in unfortunate circumstance and need an attorney that you can trust to aggressively go after your interest s,Marc Beginin is that attorney. The only thing about Beginin more impressive than his legal talent is is committment to his clients. I reccomend Marc Beginin with 100% enthusiasm. -Kumari Fulbright

I cannot say enough about how amazing Kathryn is as a lawyer, person, and professional. She is literally 12 out of 10 and I mean that sincerely. Kathryn and her team went out of their way in every aspect. Communication 100%, Effort 100%, Knowledge 100%, Speed 100%. The absolute best and only choice is Kathryn Kijewski as your lawyer. I’m so thankful I found her, you will be too. I guarantee that. Sincerely, Ken

My experience with Kathryn was amazing. Not only was she amazing at keeping in touch with me about things I really felt she cared as a person and really wanted to help. Not only is she passionate about helping her clients, she is incredibly knowledgeable and touch in the way you want your attorney to be. I can be really head strong and she had no problem even keeping me in check a few times when it was needed. I absolutely would and will recommend her and her firm to anyone that needs her services. I come from a law enforcement family, I've spent a lot of time around attorney's and judges, she's up there with the best of them. If life goes right, i wont need her services again but if i ever do there is nobody else I will call.

I was getting divorced right before we hit 20yrs together. I needed help and Kathryn supplied it in droves. Even when I backpedaled on going through with it, she supported me, gave me some things to think about, and in the end I figured out what I needed and she stuck by me. I have no idea what the going rate for a divorce lawyer is in Michigan but I felt what I paid was reasonable. I’m in Genesee County and we did all the consultations and hearings electronically. Email, text, zoom. It all went well.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Birmingham, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
