I retained Ms. Jones as my attorney in 2009, and she has been nothing but consistently excellent in every aspect of our relationship ever since. When I came to her, I needed help fighting a long term disability case against my employer who happens to be a rather well known and powerful corporation. Ms. Jones made me feel comfortable and safe from our very first meeting. After having been put through the wringer considerably for some time dealing with the issue on my own, I was mentally exhausted, emotionally defeated, and entirely convinced that I couldn't trust anyone. I was also convinced that no one would want to fight for me because of the bigness of who I was up against. Ms. Jones immediately set me at ease. She both listened and heard my entire story. She asked very specific and detailed questions to make certain she knew all the facts; she took time with me in order to get it right without rushing me through or implying I should speed things up. She ALWAYS returned my emails and calls without making me feel like a bother. She never failed to answer every question and address every concern. Most importantly to me as a client, she NEVER spoke defeat. If she ever had any doubts, she didn't put them on me which I appreciated very much since I had enough to worry about already. She was honest and realistic, she didn't mince words, however, she was always hopeful, always optimistic, and always of the mind that we were going to come at the issue from every legal angle available to us. In short, we weren't going down without a fight. For someone who had the fighting spirit beaten out of her, to have found a lawyer who had enough of it for the both of us was a blessing! By the way, we won. Although resolved, my case was somewhat ongoing due to reviews and re-evaluations. Ms. Jones never abandoned me. She remained on my team, she remained available to me to answer questions or give me a little guidance along the way. It made a world of difference! She is once again actively at work for me (2015) because my case took an ugly and unexpected turn. I immediately contacted her about the latest turn of events and, without hesitation or reservation, she was back in the fray with me and ready to fight once again on my behalf. I've dealt with other lawyers and have known many who have travelled this same disability road, and I've seen things play out much differently than my experience and not for the better. It truly does matter who represents you. The situation can look impossible but, if you have someone who not only cares but knows their job and the playing field well, believe me, you have more than a fighting chance no matter what anyone says! No lawyer is a magician, no outcome is guaranteed, but I know without a doubt having experienced it first hand and with that experience being over 6 years with Ms. Jones, the journey can be made less treacherous and frightening if you have the right travelling companion. Trust me, she will travel with you from start to finish, and you will never regret having chosen her, you will never feel you're going it alone, you will never have the sense of being lost or turned around, and, at journey's end, you will not in any way, shape, or form feel you weren't represented even one scintilla less than 110% of her very best. Can such a glowing review be true? I wouldn't have referred one of my very dear and extremely precious friends to her if there were any doubt in my heart Ms. Jones wouldn't handle her case with all the fierceness and determination with which she has and is once again handling mine. And, yes, she is fighting for my friend even now. If you're in any of the situations Ms. Jones specializes in, please, do yourself an enormous favor and call her right now. Having walked in similar shoes, I'm promising you it's okay, she's the one you've been hoping to find, your search ends here, you can rest, she's got this.

I brought Jami a disability case ... My disability insurance carrier suddenly decided I was OK and could go back to work and simply stopped paying after 7 years! In Michigan TWO appeals within the insurance company itself are required before you can dispute the company's actions in court. I thought about trying to handle the appeal(s) myself (I'm a former media pro with heavy writing experience and pretty much an expert researcher). In the end, I brought the issue to another attorney who had helped my wife get her SSD benefits, who in turn referred me to Jami. After meeting her and discussing my case, I decided that the issue was far too complex to risk trying to fix without professional help. One of the best decisions I ever made! Jami handled the appeal and it never even got to the second "internal" insurance company review. My benefits were FULLY reinstated as a direct result of Jami's involvement. And she's been with me ever since assisting with other problems with the two insurance companies I currently have to deal with. I would HIGHLY recommend Jami if you have ANY problems in her particular fields of expertise!

David went the extra mile to make sure I was defended in my lawsuit. He was realistic about setting up my expectations for the outcome & walked me through the entire legal process. He did research on previous lawsuits of this type & fact checked all my documents to ensure I was fully ready for the deposition. David was compassionate towards my situation & worked hard to understand my side of the story. He was able to get a better outcome for me than I had anticipated which I am fully satisfied with. I have used David's services in the past & he is always consistent about his process, the fees associated & the expected outcome. I would recommend his services to my closest friends & family members.

I had the fortunate experience of having Albert Holtz to advise and represent me in my unfortunate life experience...a divorce from my husband of 31 years. I went to Attorney Holtz (Al) with no knowledge of how to proceed or what to expect in filing for divorce. His professionalism, expertise, courtesy and care gave me peace of mind. He was up-front, open and honest. He kept me abreast as to what to expect every step of the way. He watched out for me in every aspect of the divorce process. Al gave me confidence and courage in the face of adversity. Albert, I can't say thank you enough. ... "IF WORDS COULD EXPRESS" If words could express my gratitude they would have a heart so full that it palpitates on the verge of a quiet combustion with beams of red, yellow, orange and blue; The words would be warm to the touch; They would feel cozy and soft; They would speak with a quiet and sincere voice; If words could express... If words could express my appreciation They would have trotting feet racing to meet you; They would have a face that shines like the sun and a head held down in respect; They would have a heart so full that it palpitates on the verge of a quiet combustion with beams of red, yellow, orange and blue; The words would be warm to the touch; They would feel cozy and soft; They would speak with a quiet and sincere voice and say, "Thank you. Your caring way means so much to me." ~Bonita

I would highly recommend Al Holtz to anyone who is looking for an attorney. While searching for a divorce lawyer, I interviewed three attorneys (both men and women) and am very glad that I selected Al. He is experienced, knowledgeable, and cares about his client as well. Al takes the time to get to know his client and listens to what is important to them. He is patient, hard working, efficient and keeps his client well informed on the progress of their case. As my divorce progressed, I felt that I could completely trust Al to take care of my interests and to manage my case. I was very satisfied with the outcome of my divorce. I would highly recommend Al Holtz.

I was convicted of a white-collar crime and charged with a felony. Mr. Fanego has a thorough knowledge of criminal law and was determined to defend my case. I was worried I would lose everything including my freedom. His calm and empathetic demeanor offered emotional succor to myself and those I care about the most. My children and I are eternally grateful for his service and recommend Mr. Fanego without reservation. Jose got my charge down to a misdemeanor, with two years probation. No jail time. My probation officer tried to extend my probation sentencing for another year, and Jose got me off of that too. He is the G.O.A.T of attorneys. I promise you this!

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
