Trust Neil with my Life!
star star star star star
24 Feb, 2024 by Juvanny joseph
Neil Rockind is hands down the greatest attorney in America, not just Michigan. I was recently dealing with a terrifying case in Oakland County, which most people know, is one of the most notoriously difficult counties to fight a case against. However, those odds significantly started to lean in my favor once Neil was on my side. In September of 2022 (Labor Day Weekend), the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department raided my house (they had a warrant based on a letter written by a miserable, vindictive woman with a grudge and a trash-pull) and found a significant amount of drugs, scales, “packaging equipment” and a loaded firearm. This resulted in 12 felony counts (ranging from possession of cocaine with intent to deliver/manufacture to felon in possession of a firearm and everything in between). Since a firearm was present, each felony charge was also accompanied by a felony firearm charge (which carries a mandatory 2 year minimum prison sentence to run CONSECUTIVELY with any other sentence). In addition to all this, this certainly wasn’t my first rodeo. I have a rap sheet, including one felony conviction that resulted in prison time in the past. Naturally, I thought I was doomed, but Neil was able to save my life even with all the cards stacked against me. During the preliminary hearing, Neil expertly dissected the lead detective’s testimony in cross-examination, and caught him in several lies (which the prosecutor tried to save by calling “mistakes”). However, the judge was able to distinguish between a lie and a “mistake”, so he dismissed two charges after the preliminary hearing, and even called the detective’s testimony false, untruthful, and unreliable. The detective ended up being put on the Brady/Giglio list, which ended up having adverse repercussions not only for the state’s case against me, but for his career as well, since his testimony can now be called in question in any case he was/would be a witness in. This obviously presented serious problems for the prosecutor, and after filing a failed motion (Neil also won the motion argument the prosecutor filed trying to save their case), the prosecutor had no choice but to enter plea negotiations with Neil. After over a year of stressful fighting, Neil was able to secure an extremely favorable plea deal for me. This deal was that the 12 counts would be dismissed in exchange for me pleading guilty to a simple felony possession of cocaine less than 25 grams. Neil also secured a Killebrew Agreement with the prosecutor in which the judge guaranteed straight probation with no jail or prison time whatsoever (which is almost unheard of in a case like mine with the charges I had stacked against me). Having Neil on my side was truly the difference between serving several years in prison and getting a simple probation sentence with no incarceration. Neil is literally a Godsend. Some people are just put on earth to do certain things, and I wholeheartedly believe Neil was put on this earth to defend people, and he does it incredibly well (better than anyone else). Needless to say, I prayed every single day since I was arrested, and I truly believe God worked through Neil to win this case. For anyone that has been on the wrong side of the justice system and has sat in those court rooms at the defense table, you know how terrifying it really can be. However, having Neil at my side felt different. I had a feeling of confidence walking into those court hearings, like I was truly protected by Neil Rockind and his team. I’ve honestly never felt more at ease and more protected in a court room than I did with Neil Rockind standing next to me. No wonder why they call him the Rockweiler. He is truly vicious if you happen to stand against him, and those he stands with are truly protected fiercely. Even at times when I felt uneasy or stressed (which is to be expected during a case like this), Neil was able to help me relax and rest assured that he had everything under control.

David went the extra mile to make sure I was defended in my lawsuit. He was realistic about setting up my expectations for the outcome & walked me through the entire legal process. He did research on previous lawsuits of this type & fact checked all my documents to ensure I was fully ready for the deposition. David was compassionate towards my situation & worked hard to understand my side of the story. He was able to get a better outcome for me than I had anticipated which I am fully satisfied with. I have used David's services in the past & he is always consistent about his process, the fees associated & the expected outcome. I would recommend his services to my closest friends & family members.

I had the fortunate experience of having Albert Holtz to advise and represent me in my unfortunate life experience...a divorce from my husband of 31 years. I went to Attorney Holtz (Al) with no knowledge of how to proceed or what to expect in filing for divorce. His professionalism, expertise, courtesy and care gave me peace of mind. He was up-front, open and honest. He kept me abreast as to what to expect every step of the way. He watched out for me in every aspect of the divorce process. Al gave me confidence and courage in the face of adversity. Albert, I can't say thank you enough. ... "IF WORDS COULD EXPRESS" If words could express my gratitude they would have a heart so full that it palpitates on the verge of a quiet combustion with beams of red, yellow, orange and blue; The words would be warm to the touch; They would feel cozy and soft; They would speak with a quiet and sincere voice; If words could express... If words could express my appreciation They would have trotting feet racing to meet you; They would have a face that shines like the sun and a head held down in respect; They would have a heart so full that it palpitates on the verge of a quiet combustion with beams of red, yellow, orange and blue; The words would be warm to the touch; They would feel cozy and soft; They would speak with a quiet and sincere voice and say, "Thank you. Your caring way means so much to me." ~Bonita

I would highly recommend Al Holtz to anyone who is looking for an attorney. While searching for a divorce lawyer, I interviewed three attorneys (both men and women) and am very glad that I selected Al. He is experienced, knowledgeable, and cares about his client as well. Al takes the time to get to know his client and listens to what is important to them. He is patient, hard working, efficient and keeps his client well informed on the progress of their case. As my divorce progressed, I felt that I could completely trust Al to take care of my interests and to manage my case. I was very satisfied with the outcome of my divorce. I would highly recommend Al Holtz.

I was convicted of a white-collar crime and charged with a felony. Mr. Fanego has a thorough knowledge of criminal law and was determined to defend my case. I was worried I would lose everything including my freedom. His calm and empathetic demeanor offered emotional succor to myself and those I care about the most. My children and I are eternally grateful for his service and recommend Mr. Fanego without reservation. Jose got my charge down to a misdemeanor, with two years probation. No jail time. My probation officer tried to extend my probation sentencing for another year, and Jose got me off of that too. He is the G.O.A.T of attorneys. I promise you this!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
