I was so worried about the IRS notices I was receiving and thought that my bank account was going to be levied - UNTIL I talked to Chad. What a relief he provided and I no longer have to talk or deal with the IRS as Chad does all the talking me. He reduced my debt, penalties and interest - thank you Chad and 1-800-LAW-FIRM. I would recommend you to anyone dealing with these issues.

An IRS Criminal Investigator came snooping around my house and began asking me a lot of alarming questions. The investigator had a badge and a gun! Basically he was not welcomed into my house. The Tax Attorneys at 1-800-LAW-FIRM calmed me down. The tax attorneys told me that an IRS criminal investigator investigates tax crimes and helps prosecute tax crimes. I was very disturbed by the IRS coming to my house. I thought I might be able to talk myself out of the problem but the tax attorneys told me this was a bad idea. The Attorneys talked to the Investigator and after some negotiation the problem went away. That’s all I can really say about this but the Attorneys did a good job and I did not go to jail.

IRS sent me letters saying I had to pay them back for a big tax refund I got. I was shocked because I did not get any type of refund. I could not figure out what was going on and I was scared. So I started calling some people to figure out what to do. My CPA referred me to Federal Tax Defense at 1-800-LAW-FIRM – I had about a 20 minute conversation with one of the Tax guru’s over there who totally knew what I was going thru. I completed the paperwork and they called the IRS for me and explained what was going on. It seemed fairly easy to them but very complicated to me. The Tax Defense team got the IRS to begin an investigation on my case and all the crazy letters stopped. Now I am able to move forward because the identity theft defense was granted by the IRS – my Lawyers won. I’m glad I retained a Tax Defense team who knew what they were doing. I made a good decision and their customer service was very good. Thank you.

I just never filed tax returns for years. That was the last thing on my mind but I knew something was wrong when my employer got a wage garnishment and it said I owed over $220,000. Thought I was having a heart attack from that one. The payroll people told me to find a tax attorney like asap. Found Attorney Chad Silver at 1-800-LAW-FIRM. The team had a phone consultation with me and told me exactly what they would do to help. They worked fast and it was an emergency situation for sure. They completed the tax returns and good thing because I threw away all my records. They were able to get the tax debt reduced by more than I could have hoped for. Also, in some years I was to get a refund that was to go against how much I owed. Wow what I mess. So it all got fixed and the IRS did not touch my wages. Worth every penny for the help!

The IRS audited me for 2010, 2011, and 2012. The IRS sent me a bill for like $36,000. I took my case to 1-800-LAW-FIRM and Tax Attorney Chad Silver and his team reviewed the case and told me the IRS was totally wrong about how much I owed. I just was not organized and the Tax defense team got me organized and told me what to say and not say when talking to the IRS. I had no idea what my rights were. They looked at all my paperwork and negotiated on my behalf. I wish I hired this team earlier but I did not know where to look.

My husband and I were in a situation where our former landlord was trying to scam us out of tens of thousands of dollars of unjustified fees. Unsure of how to respond, we hired Andrew; from the minute he took on our case, he acted confidentially and ethically to prove the facts did not match the landlord's claims. In just a few short weeks, Andrew settled our case. I can't reiterate enough how much stress and anxiety Andrew saved us during this time. Andrew handles the tough stuff for you, gets right to the facts, keeps the client informed, and does everything he can to make sure justice is served. Hire Andrew for your next case- you will not be disappointed!

Mr. VanGemert was knowledgable and tenacious. I had been to a lawyer previously with whom I had been very unhappy. Mr. VanGemert not only expedited the case but I was very pleased with the outcome. Well worth the money.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Farmington Hills, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
