I thought my attorneys Bobby Raitt and Alison Duffy were easy to get along with. What I really liked about them was that when I called with a question, they would call me back the same day. They worked as a team to help me with whatever I needed. They were just prompt with the information I needed and easy to work with. I was in a car accident, so they took care of all of the medical bills that kept getting sent to me. I didn't have to deal with the insurance companies anymore, because they took care of my PIP lawsuit and made sure I got all of my no fault benefits. I didn't have to deal with anything because I knew they were on the ball. Bobby and Alison also called me with updates, so I knew things were always moving toward a timely settlement. They were both very professional and great lawyers. I would definitely refer them to anyone that I know who gets into an auto accident.

I was in a motor vehicle accident and after getting cited for the accident, I called Michigan Auto Law. I wanted the responsible party to be responsible. Everything from my initial talk with Jeff Bussell, who began my case, to my attorneys Bobby Raitt and Alison Duffy, who litigated has been excellent. They had very good communication, kept me in the loop and made me feel very important. I know they have other clients, but I never felt like they were rushed when talking to me or they were punching the clock. Bobby and Alison were always there for me, and very helpful in guiding me through each step of the process. I'm extremely happy with the way they resolved the case – and the steps they took in litigation, because they wouldn't take the initial low offer. They had my best interest in mind every step of the way.

My lawyers were very helpful. I had a team of two: Bob Raitt and Alison Duffy. They took care of everything and knew exactly what they were doing. I could tell they were very experienced and knowledgeable about the auto accident laws in Michigan, so I didn't have to worry about my case. The communication was rapid. If I had questions, they would answer right away and someone was always there to talk with me. They make you feel like you're important, which was important to me. If you want an easy, experienced, knowledgeable lawyer, come to Michigan Auto Law and they will help with any situation you have.

Mr. VanGemert was knowledgable and tenacious. I had been to a lawyer previously with whom I had been very unhappy. Mr. VanGemert not only expedited the case but I was very pleased with the outcome. Well worth the money.

I heard about Leen through a trusted colleague. To start, I am so thankful to have found Leen. If you are looking for a physician contract lawyer you can trust, who is knowledgeable, thorough, and timely, then that is Leen. For context I am a dermatology resident and needed assistance with two contracts that I was between: 1) large hospital system contract and 2) individual contract joining a solo practice owner with potential for partnership. I got the basic review for the large hospital contract and more in depth package for the solo practice. I had a very short time window to have the contracts reviewed and completed. Despite her busy schedule, she really prioritized me and my situation. I was also looking at other “highly recommended” physician contract lawyers from white coat investor but ultimately decided to go with Leen who I felt would be able to give me personalized care based on our initial consultations. I self negotiated a lot of my contract, so I can’t speak on her ability to negotiate on your behalf but she did give me helpful tips and always made sure I truly understood my contract. I ultimately signed with the solo practice. I will be recommending Leen to my colleagues who are need of a great physician contract lawyer!

My husband and I were in a situation where our former landlord was trying to scam us out of tens of thousands of dollars of unjustified fees. Unsure of how to respond, we hired Andrew; from the minute he took on our case, he acted confidentially and ethically to prove the facts did not match the landlord's claims. In just a few short weeks, Andrew settled our case. I can't reiterate enough how much stress and anxiety Andrew saved us during this time. Andrew handles the tough stuff for you, gets right to the facts, keeps the client informed, and does everything he can to make sure justice is served. Hire Andrew for your next case- you will not be disappointed!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Farmington Hills, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
