I began my relationship with Jillvonnie Flowers hopeful, given the critical nature of my custody case. Initially, communication was prompt and reassuring. However, over time, professionalism declined sharply. Responses became infrequent and vague, significantly impacting our ability to communicate effectively. Excuses for delays became a common theme, eroding the trust and reliability I had placed in their hands. This lack of professionalism and deteriorating communication has left me feeling neglected and has adversely affected the progression of my case. For those considering Jillvonnie Flowers, especially for significant legal matters from out of state, I advise caution and recommend vetting thoroughly to ensure your case receives the attention and professionalism it deserves.

I hired this "lawyer" to help me fight for custody of my daughter, whose mother decided to marry a convicted child molester. Her role was VERY specific, or so I thought........1. to get an agreed order where my daughter would not be able to stay in this dangerous household; and 2. to set up child support payments where I would deposit money into a separate account to help cover my kid's living expenses in the new household. This "lawyer" charged me 3,500.00 and all she accomplished was getting paternity established and setting up child support payments TO the mother. I was not even made aware that the mother was trying to get the payments directly to her until the mom had accomplished the scheme. I brought up the fact that the agreed order stated my kid was not supposed to be in the household, so the mother's claim for child support through the friend of the court was based on a misrepresentation. When I brought it to this "lawyer's" attention her reply was "Oh, so you're going to turn against the mother now?" I never believed this lawyer was working for mine or my child's best interest. It always seemed that she knew the mother or had some other motive in how she was operating contrary to my interests down to putting her name on SEVERAL documents as representing the mother. I would not trust this lawyer with ANY important matters.....meaning ANY legal matters. Her attitude is best described as "Ghetto".

I hired miss Moise based on a referral from some very good friends. I couldn't be happier with the representation I recieved from her. I have had a few different attorneys and none have been as thorough and relentless as Erica. She represented me on a owi charge and was able to get all charges dropped as well as developing an arguement that no other attorney had entertained. Miss Moise was excellent at keeping me informed and up to date on any changes or news. Any further representation I need in the future will definitely be through miss Moise. I couldn't be more pleased. Miss Moise is very professional on every level. I would recommend her to anyone!!

She was knowlegeable and told us what we needed to know in "real" words. . . rather than getting all stuffy with legal terminalogy. What she didn't know she told us she would get back to us on. . . and then she did! I would recommend Marlayna Schoen to any of my friends and associates. - Sharon Shaw

Lisa took my case as a courtesy. I know her personally. I was charged with a misdemeanor for which the necessary elements of the crime did not match what was alleged to have happened. Lisa got the matter dismissed at the first court date; kept me in the loop the whole time, and is obviously a very capable attorney who will go far. I STRONGLY recommend Lisa.

Lisa J. Schmidt represented me in an unwarranted PPO matter. Lisa is, and was, very knowledgeable, confident and thorough in handling the particulars of this case. Her experience, understanding, dedication and expertise regarding this case, I believe, made a difference and an impact on the opposite party so much so, at the hearing, the petition was withdrawn. I highly recommend her. Her care and attention to my case was greatly appreciated.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Ferndale, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
