Eric was extremely compassionate during a difficult time. Not only was I divorcing, but almost every aspect of my life was suddenly turned upside down. He and his team helped me understand the divorce process and walked me through it. I knew where I stood every moment of the way. I am very appreciative for all he did for me.

I was extremely lucky to have met and been represented by Eric Faulkner and the Marks Law Firm in my divorce proceedings. He and the firm have my deepest appreciation, respect and heartfelt recommendation for their client service, integrity, professional and personal support throughout the process. When I went to Eric, my goal was to “get through” a divorce with dignity, decency, and fairness, not to inflict or endure pain and punishment, and from the start, it was what he offered and encouraged. As the almost inevitable stress and contention grew during the process, he was a strong and stabilizing ally. Ironically, after going all the way through support mediation, my wife and I reconciled and, now 3 years later, are happier than we had been in many years. Eric’s approach to my representation made that possible, to my delight. I am so glad that I didn’t choose another Orlando firm … and I did look at them. Had I done so, I am certain that I would have been efficiently divorced, unhappily. Again, thank you so much for your help, concern and representation! While other potential clients may not have marriage preservation as their desired outcome, Eric’s and the firm’s approach, integrity and just plain decency will most certainly benefit you.

Forever grateful

I was referred to the Mark’s Law Firm by a friend who had been a client of theirs. When I first reached out to the firm, I was very unsure of myself and honestly quite embarrassed. Divorce was one of the last places I had expected to be, after 10 years of marriage. The office staff was very courteous and sensitive to what I felt like was a very vulnerable situation. I met Eric my first visit to the office, as a consultation. Let’s just say from the start, his “bedside manner” was perfect! He was professional and had a very calming manner about him. During that first meeting, as I explained the circumstances which brought me there, he was understanding and unbiased. It was six more months before I came to the realization that divorce was the better choice for me and my family. Even though Eric had just met me that one time, he remembered me the moment I made contact with him. Throughout the next several months of the most stress I could ever imagine, Eric was always there reassuring me, answering my questions, and presenting me with options. He never treated me as just a “client”, but as a person who happened to be going through a rough period in her life. I am forever grateful to Eric for his counsel and support during that rough period of my life. Thank you Eric!

After I contacted Eric about my case he helped me tremendously with everything and kept me well informed. The incident happened in Flint and I am from the upper peninsula, Eric did very good advocating for me when I am 300 miles away. I was so grateful when I was awarded the money I did.

I was in a horrible car accident. My auto insurance was taking their time paying for my medical bills and reimbursements. When they started fighting me on some of them, I hired Mr. McCormick. Ever since, my medical bills are paid and receipts are reimbursed within 30 days, and any injuries pertaining to my car accident are covered for my entire life. I couldn't be happier with Mr. McCormick's service.

Could not have asked for a more reliable, professional social security attorney. We tried three times with two different attorneys and lost. THe third time with Matt was the charm. He was a pussy cat until he hit that courtroom and then he turned into a lion & won my son's case. What a great guy and well worth the travel time to meet with him.

When you hire a law firm to handle something as difficult, gut wrenching and personal as a bankruptcy and that Law firm completely screws it up, someone should be told. When you hire a law firm that conducts themselves the way Moran Law and especially attorney Josh Mahoney, the World should be told. In my later years I faced the unfortunate circumstance of having to file a personal bankruptcy. There is no need to go into details, just realize it was Hell getting there. I first spoke to Ryan Moran who listened to me for over an hour and told me exactly what to do, what the implications were, how it would hurt, how it would help. My attorney at Moran was Josh. Josh was steadfast throughout the entire process. He returned all my calls, all my emails within 24 hours consistently. He never put my requests and questions off on anyone and addressed everything personally with his great knowledge and demeanor . I have never met a young lawyer as confident and secure in his craft with no hint of ego or thinking he was just too good or busy for my small case. The support team at Moran is equally as competent and professional and helpful. If you are facing bankruptcy it is never going to be easy. It will always be difficult and humiliating. The team at Moran Law and especially Josh Mahoney are the most decent group of people out there that can help you. They are young and confident and filled with humility. Thank you Moran Law

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Flint, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
