Pros
1
Excellent and responsive legal representation that truly cares about clients
“They truly care about their clients. They took their time to understand every aspect of our case. They showed great respect to us.”
2
Knowledgeable, professional, and dedicated attorneys
“Sarissa helped me feel prepared and the difference in court once she was hired was instantly palpable. Suddenly it felt like I wasn't flailing about in the legal system.”
3
Personalized attention and communication with clients
“Sarissa took a genuine, personal interest in my case - as well as how my ideological perspective and worldview tied directly into the case. She took the time to learn about my beliefs and made an effort to recognize my concerns from that angle.”
4
Successful outcomes and client satisfaction
“Sarissa went ABOVE and BEYOND in every way to help me and ended up getting me time served! Basically saving my life or at least saving me from spending a large portion of it in prison.”
5
Compassionate and caring approach
“Sarissa made me feel at ease, comfortable and confident that I was in the right hands when I chose her. She not only helped my crippling anxiety over it, but also helped me feel like a human again, not being judgmental and wanting to instantly paint me as a bad person.”
Cons
1
Expensive legal fees
“Very friendly very expensive”
2
Lack of communication and transparency
“There's no communication or transparency, I have to explain things to the lawyer multiple times over, and I get billed EVERY time.”
3
Delayed case resolution
“Tase told me he could get my husband home in 60-90 days. It's been 8 months. That timeframe was why I hired him, and I feel like he pissed away precious time in my husband's case and has wasted my time.”
4
Insensitive and tone-deaf behavior
“Tase had the nerve to bring up a very expensive vacation to Greece that obviously my dime helped make possible when I'm barely making it to pay for the case. It was incredibly tone deaf, elitist, and out of touch.”
5
Lack of follow-through and responsiveness
“There's also a lack of common sense and tact. Tase had the nerve to bring up a very expensive vacation to Greece that obviously my dime helped make possible when I'm barely making it to pay for the case. It was incredibly tone deaf, elitist, and out of touch.”

I cannot express enough gratitude for the exceptional work of Randall Levine and Anastase Markou throughout my legal process. From the very beginning, they made sure I was informed, supported, and prepared every step of the way. Navigating the legal system can be incredibly stressful, but they turned a daunting experience into one that I felt confident facing. What stood out most was Randall’s dedication and commitment. He took the time to explain every detail, making sure I understood my options and the potential outcomes. His responsiveness was unmatched—I never felt left in the dark, and every question or concern I had was addressed promptly and thoroughly. Beyond his legal expertise, Randall was compassionate and empathetic. He truly cared about my well-being, not just the case itself. This personal touch made a world of difference during such a difficult time. Thanks to this firm, I received the best possible outcome, and I couldn’t be more grateful. If you need a defense attorney who is knowledgeable, dedicated, and truly cares about his clients, I wholeheartedly recommend Levine & Levine. They exceeded all my expectations and then some.

Great attorney to work with. I don’t have to follow up behind him to make sure things get done. I’ve had other attorneys drop the ball and then have to go back and fix their mistakes. There’s no worries with him. He takes care of everything

I cannot thank Joseph Vander Horst (Joe) enough for his exceptional service during my divorce. From our first consultation, Joe was compassionate, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable. He explained the entire process clearly and set realistic expectations. Throughout the proceedings, Joe and his team were always responsive to my questions and concerns, often replying to emails within hours. What I valued most was his candid guidance and unwavering support as we navigated the divorce process together. He was not just my attorney but also a source of support and guidance. If you are going through a divorce, I highly recommend Joseph Vander Horst.

Attorney Reed helped me with the planning and development of my company. I could tell from the start that Phil cared about the success or failure of my business. It was great being able to talk with him without having to worry about being charged for every minute. Phil knows the law and knows business. He had great insights on how to get what we needed done, he knew how to negotiate the right terms and helped me protect my business so I could focus on making money.

I normally would never write a review. But I feel like it would be unfair for me not to recommend Phil to anyone, including my peers. He is top notch, very through, professional, and has honest pricing. Do not hesitate working with him, you will not regret it. Thank you for everything Phil!

Robb is fair and honest. He took care of my legal matter in short order and was very straight forward right from day one. Robb explained my situation very clearly and explained what he thought I should do and proceeded to do just that. He has recently referred me to another attorney for my will and estate planning and I was thrilled with the attorney he referred. Robb is a great guy all the way around.

Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Kalamazoo, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
