One of the most important days in the life of our family was the day we hired Tom Sinas of Sinas Dramis Law Firm as our Lawyer. After the sudden death of my brother David our family was at a loss of what to do. As a suggestion from my Nephew, we interviewed 3 different firms in the Detroit and Grand Rapids area. As we listened, took notes and asked leading questions it was clear who we would follow into battle. Stepping into the board room with this team we felt comfort, strong empathy and consideration as we told the story and listened to a group who had experienced similar scenarios in the past. I was deeply moved as Tom took my sister-in-law aside and had a private conversation with her. Tom’s caring nature would show through as we continued through the 1 ½ year process. In the beginning of the case, Tom suggested that we create a video to explain the depth of loss we all had through the death of Dave. The idea felt a little strange at first but we later learned the value of the suggestion. The family met at my mothers house and the videographer had set us up in the living room. Tom Sinus just had a conversation with each of us and documented the emotional stories from the interview. The videographer took the raw footage and created a professional document of David's life, family and their loss. When the video was completed it was used as a powerful tool that was sent to the insurance company. I believe that video helped convince the insurance company of the value of David's life and lead to the compensation asked for without any argument. As the process is finished and results have been realized, I look back over this time with gratitude. I have never had the cause to include a Law Firm into any of my life experiences. I have to admit I never wanted to have something happen in which I needed one. We could not have imagined that a Lawyer and Law Firm could have been so professional and caring. Thank you to all of the associates of the firm who helped us through this time of pain and sorrow. As we lay this whole process to rest, we want to especially thank Tom for his caring and professional attitude toward our case. Sincerely Durrell Caister

After my three daughters were involved in a head-on collision in November 2019 because of a distracted driver, I contacted Steve Sinas for advice. My oldest daughter, who was 18 at the time, was the driver. She sustained permanent injuries that have altered her life. The driver that hit them was unlicensed (suspended) and uninsured. Our vehicle was a total loss. I was promptly compensated for the loss of my vehicle, but not for the uninsured motorist benefit. Steve agreed to represent my daughter to get those benefits. After having to file a SOL extension after our insurance company continuously declined to pay out the full benefit, we finally were able to settle for the full benefit amount in November 2023. Without Steve's help, we never would have gotten the benefits that were rightfully owed to us. Even when the insurance company lowballed their offer, Steve persisted. One deposition from my daughter was all that was needed to resolve this case. Steve went through the deposition process with her to make sure she new what to expect and let her know that he would be with her every step of the way. We're thankful this was resolved without going to trial. If you need an attorney and are unsure about your situation, reach out to Steve. I'm glad I did.

I would highly recommend the Sinas Dramis Law Firm to anyone who has been a victim in an auto accident. I can't say enough about Steve and his entire team; Ted Larkin, Leah Boelkins, Heather Childs, Nancy Gibson and I'm sure there's many others who I never had a chance to interact with. The entire staff was always patient and professional. My husband was in a MVA 11/2018 and then again 6/2021. Both were due to negligent drivers (the other guys texting & reckless driving). My husband sustained a TBI. Steve and his staff were extremely patient with us during every step. Sometimes needing to be repetitive in their explanations for my husbands sake. My only regret was not contacting them sooner. In our almost 40 years of driving this was a first major accident for both of us and we were just going through the motions believing we paid for car insurance our whole lives nothing will be an issue, until they didn't want to pay for stuff and started treating us like we were doing something wrong. That was really hard to stomach. Steve and his staff are top-notch. Every call, text, and email was responded to in a timely manner. We never felt our questions were insignificant. Very personable. Real people. Very happy clients here.

Mr. Ficklin was very poised and professional. His kind demeanor put me at ease. He prepared me for the process, by giving me a run down of the court proceedings. I was able to relax and convey my truths to the court. I would definitely use him again, if ever the situation arises. He's a keeper.

Without Dustyn I wouldn’t be doing as good as I am now, and I wouldn’t know how the rest of my life would pan out. Not only did Dustyn help me get into a program where I would not be convicted of any of my charges, felonies to be exact, but he related with me. Not in the sense of getting into trouble, but he knew what it felt like to be in a rough patch and so he sympathized with me. He also talked to me a little about some other personal issues I had been dealing with for quite some time, and made me realize that I could overcome them, and not just allow them to overcome me. He gave me 2 excellent books of his that he said he enjoyed, and would help me understand and how to overcome this issue. I could feel that he truly cared about me as a person, not just for my case. I will be eternally grateful for all of the help he provided to help get my life back on track. Definitely recommend him.

Last year I was hit with a false accusation that had potentially dire consequences. Dustyn came to my rescue. He took quick action to get the facts at the prosecutor’s office and provide me with clear counsel. Thankfully there was no litigation. Dustyn’s quick action and companionate guidance gave me peace of mind in a very difficult time.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Lansing, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
