I hired Lukas to handle my custody case. A few of my friends have used him for their divorces. We were all extremely happy with his representation. We all received the best outcomes we could have gotten. Besides being super knowledgable, he is very kind and even has a great sense of humor. I would highly recommend him.

I have used this firm’s services for bankruptcy and also a divorce with custody being the main dispute. Unfortunately my ex was extreamly difficult and would not agree to anything therefor my case ended up in a trial. Both Lukas and his wife Katherine attended which was awesome having two attorney’s fighting for not only my but my children’s best interest. The way they worked together and their level of expertise was incredible. They are personable and professional, strategic and compassionate. After a few long trying days of trial the judge ruled in my favor. I will forever be grateful for them, it is because of them that I was able to begin again with my children in my care. I refer anyone who needs legal representation to Sikorski, they are hands down the best attorneys. Oh and compared to other law firms, their prices are very reasonable!

I used Sitkorski law office for my divorce and was unhappy with my settlement from the divorce. I felt as if this office wasn't trying to fight for me at all and they tried to double bill me for services. Price was reasonable though and staff was nice but felt as if I was "just another $ sign. Only meet Lukas only once and that was at my initial meeting. Everything else was handle by the Legal Assistant. Definitely wouldn't recommend him.

I went through a highly contested and ugly dispute that lasted nearly 2 years. I retained Lukas and Katherine from the start. Having never been through anything like this, I was unsure what to expect. I was so impressed with the dedication, thoroughness, and care that Mr and Mrs Sikorski showed. They fought for me every step of the way and went above and beyond what I could have ever imagined. The prices are also so fair in comparison to other firms! I must add that Megan and Kate at the Garden city office are absolutely amazing! They were there to answer my calls (and there were so so many) everytime I needed them. I truly consider Lukas, Katherine, Megan, and Kate friends of mine now and I am forever grateful for their diligence on my case and ability to even make me laugh through this process I never could've imagined going through. I would recommend the Sikorski law firm to anyone who needs legal help. I will never go anywhere else. So thankful for them!

The Sikorski Law Firm has guided me through some of the hardest situations I've ever had to deal with in my entire life. Lukas and the entire Sikorski team have been invaluable assets, supporting and listening to me every step of the way. I am still working with him time and time again with custody cases and everything that comes up with the difficult situation I am in as a single parent, and I plan to retain him as my attorney in all future cases. Lukas remembered details that other attorneys I talked to before hiring him forgot or mixed up, which is invaluable when my child's well-being is at stake. He has made me feel comfortable in terribly intimidating courtrooms and encouraged me when I felt helpless and alone. He's found solutions that I couldn't have thought of on my own. Every time I work with him I know I am truly being listened to and taken seriously. He has given me outstanding advice that helped me stand my ground in and outside of the court room, has been exceedingly accommodating. He has found solutions to problems in what I would have otherwise found hopeless and impossible to solve. I cannot stress enough how much he has done for me, and how much he has helped me deal with an ongoing process that I could not have gone through on my own. With Lukas there have been no mistakes; he has made so much progress in my case and continues to find ways to fight for my child and I. Everyone I talk to knows how much he has supported and helped me. I recommend Lukas to everyone I know! I couldn't have got as far as I have today without Lukas' guidance and experience.

I hired Jeffrey Saunders for my estate planning. I couldn't have been more pleased. He not only did what I hired him to do, but he filled out and mailed numerous forms that I assumed I would have to do. The whole experience was not only rewarding, but reasonable. I would recommend Jeffrey to anyone.

We hired Jeffrey Saunders over 20 years ago to complete our first living trust, this last month, we again hired Jeffrey to complete an update to our trust. He is well-educated in estate planning, very professional in his work, and a lawyer who wants to help his clients. His paralegal Cindy is still working with him, we remember her from 20 years ago, she is efficient and always available to answer any questions. We believe keeping staff for this long is a testament to the type of person Jeffrey Saunders is. We recommend Mr. Saunders to all of your friends and family.

Mr. Bagazinski was great during the closing for the purchase of my home. For my wife and I, this was our first home purchase. He was very knowledgeable on what to look for within the documents to make sure everything was done correctly. He took the time to explain each document to us. This gave us a great peace of mind that everything was done correctly. He answered all the of questions we had. Our closing experience was made much easier having him with us. I would highly recommend Gerald Bagazinski.

Prior to meeting Melissa, I was in desperate need of support from my bankbruptcy attorneys. I had retired early from my job due to medical reasons and my SS didn't begin until 5 months later. I tried to explain the financial issues to my attorneys: I emailed both of them and tried to contact them on the phone. My calls were not once answered or returned. Neither were the several (rather desparate ) emails I sent to both, explaining the changes in my circumstances and that I was unable to pay the Court until I received my retroactive Social Security payments. After 60 days with no contact from them, I called the trustee's office , discussed my situation and was sent a listing of attorneys in my area. I feel that I am extremely fortunate that I selected Melissa's firm (Charles Schneider). My appointment was scheduled within a couple of days of my initial call, my prior case notes were discussed with me and my options on how best to proceed were carefully explained. After followup calls and appointments with Melissa, my case was reviewed by the Court. Bottom line: My case issues were all resolved and Melissa also negotiated more affordable monthly payments due to my retirement and reduced income. I cannot praise her efforts and support enough!

Going through any bankruptcy is not easy. But Melissa made it less painful. Her excellent knowledge of the law and the inner workings of the bankruptcy court was key in helping us to file, maintain, and finally complete our bankruptcy. Near the end of our bankruptcy due my wife being forced to retire and we losing half of our income we were forced to request a modification. Melissa took on this challenge, negotiating with our remaining creditors and the trustee for an approved modification to our plan that was acceptable to all parties involved, helped us avoid incurring new debt in the process. I highly recommend this attorney if you are faced with bankruptcy. Communication with , and compassion for the client are two things that Melissa excelled at. She exceeded my expectations.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Livonia, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
