DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME. I have already filed complaints with the American Bar Association, the Attorney General & stopped payment on the last check for his "services," but the googling public NEEDS to know: I just met Paul this year. He was supposed to handle a license restoral & a $56 bench warrant out of 40th District Court. Paul will PROMISE ANYTHING to get your money. The old bait & switch technique. Got me for $700 of $1000 on the FIRST VISIT. He will tell you that he "handles cases like this all the time" or "just handled a similar, *far more serious case* just last week," it's ALL LIES. HE DOES NOT. He HAS NOT, CANNOT, in 6+ months, restore a drivers license, handle closing old cases or represent you for a misdemeanor, let alone handle a felony case, despite his claims. You will have to contact MSP, pull your record for $50 & then Sec of State & restore it yourself FOR $125 while he makes excuses, claiming you just need to provide a "certified copy" of your driving record so he can request a "certifcate of judgement" & continues billing you for his "services." Neither of these are necessary. One look into his office, circa 1960, should have been my indication that this is not a well-maintained or profitable law firm. He even went so far as to scold my 3 year old (special needs) son for running a plastic matchbox car across the top of his delipidated faux wood desk. When he does show up for court, on time, if at all, he is an unprepared, sweaty, bumbling, baffoon, not well versed on your case. He deliberately asks the court for more time, so that he can bill you for an additional visit. Paul's neglect, deliberate lack of communication and preparation cost me THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS & almost jail time!! Don't expect case updates because you will not get that. He will not return your calls or emails. God forbid, you're a WOMAN & any time, you call him out on his obvious unprofessionalism or assert yourself, you will find Paul has quite a temper. NOBODY wants to deal w 300lb, sweaty, Grandpa screaming at at the top of their lungs, over the phone, outside of the court building because he's a no-show, again. It is 2023 Your attorney should be your biggest advocate. Your clients SHOULD NOT BE EDUCATING YOU ON NEW PAROLE & PROBATION LAWS PASSED IN 2021, aka Michigan SB 1050. WE USE COMPUTERS & THE INTERNET NOW. Get with the program. Stop assuming your clients are as uneducated as you are useless.

I felt lost and desperate and SCARED! I have 4 DUI's...yep 4 and had been without a license for about 18 + years. I am 100% sober now and felt ready for the privilege of driving. I had been denied by the license appeal board and felt a need to change attorneys...that's when I was introduced to Attorney Vickrey. He told me the good the bad and what could be the ugly. He walked me through each step and made sure that all my ducks were in a row. The man texted / called me on the weekends! The second time around, with Attorney Vickrey, we had success and my license was fully reinstated with no restrictions! Attorney Vickrey will ALWAYS be my go to attorney. RESPECT!!!!

Robert hooked me up with my attorney for my hit and run car accident and did an amazing job linking me up with the right attorney. Robert is very knowledgeable and cares about his clients. Still to this day he checks up on how my case is going and it's very much appreciated. I wish we had more attorneys like robert who we can trust and who truly care. I highly recommend Robert for your attorney needs!

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mount Clemens, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
