I called for consultation. As soon as I get on the phone I tell the lawyer what I need help answering. He then asks questions instead of answering mine which is fine, but then begins to be extremely rude because of miscommunication. Called another law firm, they were nice and walked through everything with me getting me the help I called for.

Mr. Overdier handled an environmental case for me and I was amazed how prepared he was. I had my doubts at first because I hadn't heard from him for a while before the case. But when he came to court, it was obvious he was no nonsence and intended to win my case. I would definitly use him again.

I have limited space in this review, so I will try to keep it short. The team goes above and beyond for their clients, and without them, I have no idea where I would be. They give the most straightforward advice, and if something goes bump, they know their stuff well enough to maneuver around it. There is always a way, and they find it. They are very good at letting their clients use their voice, and making their voices heard. I cannot say enough good things about them, so I'm leaving multiple reviews in multiple sites, in hopes that everyone can see what I see in the team at Hyde Law. I didn't find them, they found me, and took a chance with me, a chance I will be FOREVER in their debt in terms of owing them my life. I'm sure I've given them more than one headache, but they are ever so patient and understanding, reassuring me when they know I need it, and letting me rant and rave while they pick through the relevant pieces. I have every faith in them to do right by me and my children in the end. No matter how things turn out, I know they will and have given it their all.

My wife and I were thankful to have Mr. Hyde with us in the process of walking through this. He helped us in getting organized, and all the way how the Court worked. He helped us find where to do the online courses.

I am no one of particular importance...of absolutely ZERO consequence. When I leave this world, I will've done more to "remember" than to "be remembered". And It is with tremendous esteem and profound gratitude that I write this review of Ms. Ashley McIntosh, doubtful that I'll see her again...grateful for her service...sorrow-filled I couldn't thank her in person...and...proud of this simple opportunity in which I can briefly share with all those who might be seek help, in earnest, in keeping with my own experience. A harrowing experience through which I was safely I guided by Ms McIntosh. Her counsel affected me to such an extent it was just cause for me to re-assess my life, and re-prioritize whatever precious little time I might have left... Because of my attorney, because of her compelling arguments, her patience, her compassion, her keen social skills, her understanding of "the struggle" and the uphill climb, ....because she took as much time as she was able, to understand my individual situation... The portrait of me she painted before the court was true and accurate, and accentuated by a warm glow of a soft spot light whose forced illumination revealed every part of my life in gentle ways so as to celebrate the "for betters" and provide meaning and understanding when explaining "For Worse" ...She proffered rationale arguments, brokering in urgency for my sake, while methodically defending me with intelligence repartee if/when necessary...She made the unwavering push towards our predetermined goal...After that first hearing when the Court sought either to better understand my position, or to establish some kind of baseline for my morality, Ashley was lightning quick in her effort to protect me with her brilliant articulacy in response to the direct query. Make no mistake about it, she was defending the sick with sensible, compelling eloquence...she had the necessary words on hand to speak the very things I could not say due to medical impairment. I am eternally grateful for her representation. She helped me see that my thinking needed to change...And she never once said as much to me. I figured that out cuz she was just amazing in way that make you have faith in the system and possibly humanity as a whole, again. Thank you Ms. McIntosh for all your help. And to everyone else, I can summarize, in short, by saying: IF YOU NEED AN AMAZING ATTORNEY WHO WILL LISTEN TO YOU WITHOUT EXPRESSING SKEPTICISM, BIAS, OR PREJUDICE...IF YOU NEED AN ATTORNEY TO LISTEN TO YOUR ENTIRE STORY SO THAT THE BIGGER PICTURE IS FACTORED INTO THE IMMEDIATE CIRCUMSTANCE...THEN YOU NEED ASHLEY MCINTOSH! YOU NEED TO RETAIN HER NO MATTER WHAT THE COST. SHE IS AMBITIOUS, INTELLIGENT, AND WILL REPRESENT YOU FULLY BEFORE THE COURT. NO FAVORABLE OUTCOME CAN EVER BE GUARANTEED NOR SHOULD BE PROMISED...BUT GIVE THIS ATTORNEY A CHANCE. I BELIEVE SHE WILL NOT DISAPPOINT YOU. I WOULD THANK HER PERSONALLY FOR HER AFFECT ON MY LIFE...BUT IM NOT SURE WHERE'S SHE AT RIGHT NOW. ...PROLLY DOWN BY THE RIVER...FEEDING A FLOCK OF WHITE DOVES AND WALKIN ON WATER. Jordan S

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mount Pleasant, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
