I had tried myself, and it was turned down. Over fairly small things I didn't realize would be an issue or I would have done things differently. So it was recommended to me to talk to him. SO glad I did. He is VERY focused on details. Which is needed or you can get rejected for simple things. So he made sure everything was together, and any detail that could be potentially questioned was backed up with info on it so the secretary of state could have a full and accurate picture of everything. He was amazing from start to finish. He also is very to the point on what may be looked at as an issue and to let you know ahead of time so if you do get questioned on certain things you know what to expect. Also, very easy to reach and stays in contact throughout the process and gets back to any call or email quickly. He is very invested in presenting the best case possible for his clients and does care about his clients- rare from my experience with lawyers. He is amazing and very good at what he does.

Mr. Langscheid is truly the best there is out there, for what he does. He has been doing this for a long, long time... And is so good in fact, that he does it all by himself and isn't part of a group. He doesn't need to be, that's how successful he is at winning cases. His attention to detail when it comes to catching errors in paperwork and cross examining a story so all the pieces fit correctly in the case before being put before a hearing officer or judge, is astounding. He caught details that even my husband and I didn't catch, and it was our own case and paperwork, our hopes and dreams at stake. Most lawyers just leave it up to you to not make any errors, take your money and word for it, file whatever you give them and don't check anything... Putting you at risk to lose your case. Not to mention they are very hard to get ahold of, don't respond for weeks or follow up, and are likely to allow their personal opinons get in the way of their client's chances of success, because they develop certain attitudes when it comes to places or events surrounding your case. Not Mr. Langscheid. He is very attentive, responds quickly within a few days at most, answers his phone if for some reason you have a question or concern, and is dead serious when it comes to winning your case. When you are serious and ready to find the one who will help you get your DL back, call him. Be prepared to be completely honest about your story on the intake call with him. He will not take your first payment if he doesn't feel like the case can be won, and if anybody can win your case, it's him only. Don't omit any nasty details or try to smooth things over on the intake call, because if you do that you'll only be fooling yourself and he needs to realistically know the absolute truth before any money is taken. At some point all the dirty details will need to come out anyway and nobody needs to put themselves or others in that position for failure. After 13 years of being without a DL, a few days ago my husband went to the DMV and got his license back thanks to Mr. Langscheid. All I can say is be prepared to be sober and honest, do EXACTLY what he tells you to do without argument, and remember that he has your best interest in mind. If you do that, you will get your license back.

I hired Kevin originally to look into a bankruptcy option for a business I own in Canada and Kevin was great to recommend someone who was able to explain how things work in Canada and figure out a way to keep the business operating. I have used Kevin a few times since and each and every time he is knowledgeable about my options and provides quality feedback and recommendations on what my options are and how to best proceed with each issue. In late 2020 I had an employee issue that I was not sure how to proceed with and he instructed me the best way to deal with the employee to ensure my business was minimizing any potential liabilities surrounding the situation. Kevin did a great job of explaining all the different scenarios and what the best path would be in order to solve the issue quickly and amicably. This is a person I would want to have in my corner should I ever get served with a law suit.

My husband and I hired Estate Planning & Elder Law Services, P.C. to create an Estate Plan for us. We have been extremely satisfied with the service that they have provided. Our time spend was used wisely and efficiently. All employees were very friendly and knowledgeable, from the secretary to the lawyer that handled our estate plan. I valued the down-to-earth atmosphere that was emitted during our visits. Our needs were met and all questions were answered in a timely manner. The process was explained in layman's terms and the layout/planning was explained so that the information was easy to understand. The customer service and quick response time was excellent! I would highly recommend Estate Planning & Elder Law Services, P.C. to anyone who is in need of this type of service.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Northville, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
