Andrew was the best lawyer I could have asked for. He is incredibly supportive, positive, and easy to get ahold of. He always has a smile and I could tell he was doing the very most he could to take care of me. I recommend Andrew to everyone and anyone. He has great values, and I can tell my case was important to him.

Outstanding 1st class Attorney/Human being! I had the pleasure to have Jim represent me in a Federal trial against the Government! He fought for me with all his power/ expertise and to make a long story short the Jury came back with a not guilty verdict on all counts! I was distraught and God sent Jim as a Angel in my defense! I would not hesitant to trust Jim with my life when the stakes are high! I was totally innocent and Jim fought tooth and nail to let the truth prevail! If you ever need legal representation second to none that will fight for you and treat you like family, Jim Amberg is that Man! God Bless!

I could not have selected a better criminal defense attorney to represent me in my case, I really recommend Andrew Kassab. He helped me so much with my case and kept me updated throughout the process until everything was taken care of. During my first initial call with Andrew, I knew that I would be receiving excellent representation. He is very knowledgeable/honest and made me feel very comfortable. He was able to explain things so one can have clarity/ transparency. He defended me vigorously and to the fullest extent. I truly appreciate his commitment to making sure I received the best possible outcome because I was in a difficult position. Andrew has the best representation which I highly recommend and can’t thank enough.

Mr. Lacey initially litigated a rental dispute with an apartment complex in Rochester Hills Michigan. The apartment complex claimed that I owed them money and was suing me for that money and more. Mr. Lacey was referred to me by a co-worker. I presented Mr. Lacey with the proof that I didn't owe the money and he was successful in resolving the issue in my favor. Because of this issue I decided to move and a few years later the complex tried to sue me for wrongful termination of the lease even though I gave the complex written notice that I was leaving because of the negative history that we had together and they agreed to let me go. I contacted Mr. Lacey again and the final result was a "tie"; the ruling was that I had to pay some money to the complex but they had to give me back my security deposit which they had held. More recently Mr. Lacey helped my husband and I create our Living Wills.

I hired Mr. Lacey to handle and work with me regarding Landlord/Tenant contracts and disputes. I also have had land contracts written and executed by him. I found working with Mr. Lacey to be very easy as we accomplished all of my needs. I have recommended him to other family members as well as business acquaintance. All have commented with the same remarks "How easy he is to work with and he does get the job done"

We were in need of an attorney located in Michigan to help us dispose of family property in the state of Michigan. This involved several family members and most living in different states. We contacted Mr. Lacey to see if he could represent us in this matter to help resolve the multiple issues that were involved in the selling of this acreage. Through his diligence and resourcefulness along with many long distance phone conversations, he was able to effectively help us liquidate this property. We could never have accomplished this without Mr. Lacey's help, diligence and trust, especially handling this matter long distance. We unfortunately never personally met, but I feel as though I have known him for a very long time. I highly recommend his services to anyone! I can never thank him enough for handling this sensitive matter in such a professional way!!!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Royal Oak, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
