Because my case is sensitive I paid close attention in terms of whom should I hire for this case. When I met with Milica and did consultation I decided to go a head in my case with her. I was right in taking that decision because during the entire process and interaction with her I felt comfortable with her in terms of professional and personal aspects. She is knowledgeable, committed, understanding, compassionate, and respectful and knows what she is doing. I can tell from several situations that she went out of her way to provide help and assistance while it was fine if she did not do that. There is an incident where I faced discrimination and because of her interference the people involved in that matter collected themselves and went back in their judgment. There is a time where she made a call outside of her working hours just to comfort me. She is reachable and approachable. You feel safe with her, moreover, you feel your case matters and you matter as well. With her you are Not just a pocket of money but you are a human being as well. She was Not just a great attorney but also a great human being which is very important for me. That is why I’m wondering why she left my case at the middle leaving me helpless and out of choices since I already paid and cannot select another attorney but I have to continue with whoever was there even if that is uncomfortable for me or does not reflect my personal choice. Again, I deliberately selected her out of many attorneys out there after meeting with her and with others. So, leaving me in the middle does not look like her or reflect my experience with her. That is why I feel very very disappointed and I deserve at least some sort of explanation :( why she left my case while she was the only person I trusted with my case. She deserves five for her extraordinary work and constant effort and humanitarian treatment however the only reason I gave her four instead of five is because she unexpectedly did not continue with me which left me stuck without too many options. My case matters for me and I felt it matters for her, as I’m one of her clients. At the end I hope her the best, though I’m the one who unfortunately left disadvantaged.

I hired this attorney for a personal injury matter. And though can be very nice, can also accuse you of not believing your Injuries. The reason I was unhappy is I could not reach her for a whole month, though I made calls and wrote letters. She also promised me things like you're court date will for sure finish on this date, but it didn't. And she stated your check should come around this time, but didn't. And the last thing was she left me and I never herd from her again until the office she worked for informed me after numerous attempts.

My husband and I have been working with Milica to try to get his citizenship for a number of years. She has always worked her hardest and has blown me away with her research, her ideas and thoughts and just the work she has done on our case. She thinks of everything under the sun. Recently my husband was detained and in a time when our worst nightmare came true as Milica was 100% there for us and was able to keep our family together. We dont have an easy case but Milica has always given us hope and helped us like we were her own family. We recommend her to anybody we know that is in need and words can't describe how amazing she is.

I had a case from many years ago that I never took care of as I am from out of state. I contacted Scott to help me with the process while still being out of state. Scott was patient, kind, and answered all of my many questions to help me get through the process as much as possible. It was a very scary experience to go through but Scott reassured me that he would take care of everything and he did. I felt that we were in good hands and I trusted him, which is surprising since I don't trust anyone. Thank you Scott for the help we really appreciate all you did for us.

Zach did an amazing and thorough job on my case. He was always available when I needed him and he answered all my questions thoroughly, sometimes more than once without ever hesitating. It was a highly stressful and emotional situation for me and Zach understood that and was so patient and kind. His background as a prosecutor helped because he was able to understand where the prosecutor was coming from and how to go from there. I’m pleased to say that Zach was not only able to get my case dismissed but prior to that he was able to get a no contact order dropped by the judge that the prosecutor said the judge would never agree to. Thank you Zach!!

I was issued multiple traffic citations for an accident where the officer(s) misrepresented certain important facts. Zach and his team were able to get the facts to my case corrected and half of my caseload dropped. Zach was poised, detailed and very professional. The court proceedings took over a year to finalize for the traffic incident. During this period, Zach was on time for every court appearance and handled my case with care. I would certainly return to Zach and his team in the future should I need any legal assistance.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Southfield, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
