Mark Satawa helped my brother that was being falsely charged with 1st degree child abuse, Marks relentless help at every court gave my brother his freedom! Once my brother was charged I looked online for a lawyer, Marks page came up and my gut told me he’s the right lawyer and indeed my gut was right! I would recommend Mark to anyone, Mark is the definition of a lawyer! Mark answers all questions and does not let anyone wonder or think, he's always honest to, does not hype you up falsely! Thank you Mark for your great job!

Mark is a true gem! I called his practice to get a consultation. I had no idea that I would be speaking with Mark directly. Mark too the time to explain the whole process and all possible outcomes. He is a master of strategy which leads to many victorious resolutions. He gave examples of some strategies that I didn’t even know existed! He even sent me literature on his strategy practices and a self written book on his expertise. Mark was able and willing to answer all of my questions and we spoke via telephone on numerous occasions. His price matches his experience and he also was willing to share referrals for more “affordable” representation if we decided to not retain him. I had spoken with several attorneys regarding the matter at hand but Mark was the only lawyer that when I hung up the phone I wasn’t riddled with fear. If your on the fence I’m telling you call Mark he is a master strategist with a proven reputation of favorable resolutions. He offers payment plans and is willing to work for your family. I would definitely trust him with my life! Wishing us all liberty and justice!

Rude, he has no bed side manor. We paid a small down payment (which we decided to take a loss on). I do understand he wanted his money as it is his job but I have never been talked down to so much in my entire life. He seemed very nice early on ... then I asked one question about how much a family conference would cost and he said he was offended. When I tried to apologize he said the damage was done. He was rude to all of us involved as if we were children he was scolding. GO TO HIM IF YOU LIKE TO BE VERBALLY ABUSED

I found myself in a situation I thought I would never be in; I was charged with criminal sexual conduct in the 3rd degree. I was a college student, studying full-time and playing football at this university, with no criminal history what so ever. During summer break, I went back home to see my high school friends, and we decided to head up to a friend’s lake house for the weekend. After a day on the lake of drinking and partying, I ended up getting close and intimate that night with this girl that I’ve known since middle school, and we ended up hooking up. After the weekend was over, the next thing I know my world got completely derailed. I received a call from a state detective wanting me to come in for questioning. This girl I’ve known half my life, what was consensual sex that night; she was charging me with rape. I was scared and in shock. So I started searching online for the best lawyers in my area and I came across the name Mark Satawa. I called him in the morning and he met with me that same afternoon, free of charge, to talk about my situation. Before I even laid down some money to secure him as my lawyer he offered to take care of things with the detective to get him off my back. I knew that day that I needed him as my lawyer; it wasn’t until after I hired him that I learned about his experience and successful history as being a criminal sexual conduct defense lawyer. After hiring Mark, he went straight to work on my case. I ended up losing all of my friends, being suspended from the football team, being kicked out of school, and feeling like I just wanted to give up on everything. This case became my life and ultimately would decide my future whether I won or lost. My family and Mark were the only people who believed in me and believed my side of the story. Mark not only was my lawyer but my counselor – and he truly excels at both. The amount of stress and pain I felt and the tears I cried during those seven months were hell. Mark was there through it all and truly kept my mind and heart in the right place. I worked closely with Mark over those next seven months. We had a lot of meetings and phone calls to discuss things that needed to be done. I had a lot of homework to do for the case and Mark always kept me informed and up to date. Mark at all times knew what was going on, he always acted professionally, and at the end of the day even though he was my lawyer, he let me make a lot of the decisions because it was my life that was going to be affected, not his. Mark surrounds himself with great people too; his staff was very knowledgeable and always friendly and supportive of me. My case went through almost every step of the criminal process before going to trial. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. Take a plea and play it safe or go to trial and risk it all. In my heart, I knew I wanted to go to trial because I knew that I could not submit myself guilty for something that I did not do. The trial lasted five days, which seemed like an eternity. I simply do not have the words to describe how masterful Mark is when speaking in the court room. He is truly an intelligent man, who knows every aspect of criminal sexual law, he has phenomenal people skills and was incredibly smooth when making his statements, cross-examining, or on direct examination. Mark barely looked at his notes because he knew the case like the back of his hand, his preparation and the amount of time and effort he put into the case was apparent. He was even able to make the jury laugh on occasion, which when you’re in this type of stressful situation for everyone, was truly remarkable that showed his human side. I trusted Mark with my life and he pulled through, literally saving my life. I am now a free man, able to do whatever I want. We still stay in touch and we’re still friends today. After everything that I went through, he gave me the best advice after my trial that I will use forever, “the best revenge is living life right.” Mark Satawa will get the job done for you and make your life whole again.

I would 100% recommend Attorney Mark Satawa to anyone in need of a knowledgeable, competent, and dedicated attorney! I retained Mr. Satawa for appeal after my husband’s conviction. If I could turn back the hands of time, or knew all the things I know now, I would have retained Mr. Satawa prior to my husband’s conviction. Attorney Mark Satawa upholds the highest standards of professionalism in and outside the court room. He displays confidence and does not back down. The knowledge he possess in criminal sexual conduct law is top notch. His association to other experts and valuable resources are a force to be reckoned with. Mr. Satawa has earned my trust and has maintained honesty with me throughout this process. We have been to the Michigan Supreme Court. We have been to the United States District Court. He has stood by my side, through all my tears, fighting for my husband’s freedom tirelessly. He has made what seemed like the impossible, possible. Attorney Mark Satawa succeeded and my husband will be coming home!

Mr. Goldman handled my case with professionalism and tact. Very good listener and adviser. Felt non- stressed during our appearance before the Judge. When I had problems using "Zoom" for the court case Mr. Goldman was sure I was able to communicate with the court explaining the problem. A very good person. I would recommend his services.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Southfield, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
