Excellent court room demeanor. Great command of the English language. Attorney Gibson was able to win my case when other attorneys would not even look at my case. She has a great eye for details that most lawyers over look.

Ms. Gibson helped defend me against a credit card claim with Cpitall One. She was professional and she got me off because of a mistake she caught with how they served my papers! She was sharp and the other attorney was speechless!

I had an old judgment from 2011 pop up recently for student loans all the way from 2006. I was being garnished for loans that as far as I could tell were cancelled. I emailed Brian out of no where with my random facts, my story and so on. Brian was more than kind enough to work with me via email to give me an idea of how to start fighting this. I eventually made the decision to hire him and it was the smartest decision I have ever made. Brian quickly ascertained the facts of this case, what was happening and laid out, in plain text what was going on. It instantly assuaged any anxiety/fears I had regarding this issue. When he says he will go to work for you, he will. From day one he started applying pressure and within 2 weeks of hiring the entire issue was dismissed. Brian is a 100% genuine guy that will tell you like it is and will do everything he can to get you the result you want.

Attorney Parker did an outstanding job resolving my issues. I was very nervous about the proceedings but Mr. Parker was able to demystify the process. He is quite knowledgeable on the finer points of the law and was able to use his extensive knowledge to advocate on my behalf. He communicated very clearly with me and was transparent. I would highly recommend Mr. Parker if you are dealing with debt collectors. Do not stick your head in the sand and hope your debt issue or lawsuit will go away - that's what the debt collection law firm wants you to do. Hire Mr. Parker - for a very reasonable price I might add!! - and handle your business.

Josh was amazing! He heard me out from the start, and actually looked at my case when other lawyers turned me down for being "too young". I'm lgbtq and he was respectful and kind to me throughout the entire process. He was clear with what we still needed. He worked very well with my memory issues never minded telling me what we needed. He made the whole process a breeze for me and I had been doing it alone for so long. It was an amazing weight that got lifted. He made sure to talk to me as much as I needed to be prepared and less anxious. 10/10 recommend.

I had a previous attorney and after several months of my case going nowhere and a lack of communication with my attorney, I approached Josh and asked him to represent me. He explained my situation to me and went above and beyond when it came to protecting my rights. He was very knowledgeable about the law and had a genuine concern for me. My case settled with a very favorable outcome. Josh guides you each step of the way through your case. He will give you all the information necessary to make informed choices. I would highly recommend him to any person seeking a divorce attorney.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of West Bloomfield, Michigan?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
