I recently went through a challenging legal process with no prior experience in the judicial system, which caused me significant anxiety. Thankfully, my attorney, Patrick Casey, was there every step of the way, providing clear guidance and unwavering support. He consistently prioritized my best interests, ensuring that I felt heard and understood throughout the process. Patrick's expertise and compassionate approach made a difficult situation much more manageable. I’m incredibly grateful for his help and would highly recommend his services to anyone in need of legal assistance.

Patrick Casey acted as though he was better than me the entire time. Told me what to say and twisted what I said to make it sound better. He kept interrupting me and did not listen to me. I fired him before trial and will not be going back to his firm ever again. There are better lawyers that actually listen to you.

After being accused of a harsh crime I wanted to find the correct lawyer to clear my name and that lawyer was Patrick. I am wholeheartedly convinced that no other lawyer could've represented me better than Mr. Casey himself. Not only was Mr. Casey professional, but his whole team was also passionate about my case. While working with Patrick I felt calm and comfortable that I could trust my future in his hands, to anyone looking for a lawyer look no further I would recommend Mr. Casey to my best friend if need be.

I was initially excited to have a confident lawyer like Patrick Casey working on my child custody case. Months into it, after a phone call with his paralegal, I received an email of a potential to-be-filed document that I was to review and approve. I was shocked to find that not only had the paralegal gotten several facts completely inaccurate after our phone call, but she had apparently copied and pasted information from another child custody case, and neglected to change the names and information, resulting in me reading details of another client's case. When I responded with a point-by-point explanation of the errors, I was contacted by Patrick, not with an apology for the mistakes, but with a recommendation that we scrap the whole thing. I accepted his advice, but shortly thereafter I received my bill, charging me for the paralegal's time spent "preparing" this useless and concerning document. I went into the office and spoke with the very friendly receptionist, who informed me I would have to talk with Patrick about removing those charges from my bill. When he called me the next day, I expected to chat with him about my concerns, but he quite promptly informed me that he was refunding those charges along with the rest of my retainer, and said I would need to find other counsel. I don't view myself as a difficult client, just one who is concerned with the details and wants to make sure everything is happening the way it should be. I don't typically write critical reviews, however in this instance, I felt it was my duty to warn other potential clients that their cases may not be handled with the utmost care with this firm.

I consulted with this person, and decided off back NOT FOR ME! HERE's my perception. He called me finally after 2wks, asked me some questions, I laid the issue on him, HE seemed to know his strategies, maybe OVER CONFIDENT. Lets me know he was in Mankato guess this gave him the impression I was LOADED $$$. So as I started to answer his questions, he shut me down, "RUDELY" in mid convo, as if I was his child he was raising...THEN TELLS ME HE WANTS "$15K UP FRONT"...I then shut it down and told him how I felt about his approach. 1. Rude 2. very arrogant, 3. OVER PRICED

When I got charged, I feel like I talked to every attorney in Southern Minnesota. Mark was patient from the beginning and was completely open about his fees and his thoughts on the legal process that I would face. I hired him and it was the best decision I made. He found problems with the case that I would have never known about. When there were things that I didn't understand, he took the time to walk me through the explanation. I always appreciated that he wasn't afraid to give me "bad news." Fortunately, he was also able to give me great news when all the charges I was facing were dismissed after a hearing where Mark argued that the charges violated my rights.

Andrew was extremely helpful in assisting with an old divorce matter. He came highly recommended by a friend of mine, and I was not disappointed. He was professional and personable. He walked me through the process. He always kept me in the loop. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone! His paralegals were also very helpful, kind, and empathetic. They made this process as smooth as possible, and I cannot tell you how much appreciate every single one of them. Thank you

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mankato, Minnesota?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
