Lawyers do many things, different kinds of law and expertise, different types of specialties even within those different arenas. Prosecution to defense I think many imagine themselves to be "champions of the people". Then there are those like Emma Denny and her team of lawyers and paralegals that truly embody the people's champion ethos. Employment lawyers do not get paid unless the case is settled outside of court or won at trial. Thus, when an employment lawyer signs onto your case they have just as much skin in the game as us. More even. All the upfront costs of time spent writing and filing briefs with the court, any experts needed to provide expert opinions or arbitration for settlements and every hour of their time, all on their dime. Meaning when an employment attorney takes your case, they not only have to have confidence in their ability to win or settle it they also are putting their confidence, belief and faith in YOU. It's a team. After I was wrongfully terminated, I called nearly 15 employment attorneys. I was contacted by 8 paralegals for an interview about the circumstances of my case. I was then contacted by only 3 attorneys interested in my case. My case had a wild card element to it in that it had to do with new substance legalization laws interacting with employment law that did not have a lot of precedent. Considering how many I contacted and how many showed interest this told me my case was not a slam dunk and thus was seen as a risk for many of the attorneys I contacted. 2 of them told me I should contact the state, or another lawyer with different skills and that the grey associated with the new laws was a dealbreaker for them. Then Emma Denny called. The biggest difference in the first 10 mins of speaking with her was her preparedness and absolute confidence. She had the legal stances, strategies and statutes already laid out without ever talking to me. Despite differing social opinions on newly legalized substances judgment never came into our conversation or into her demeanor and treatment of me and my case. She was fiercely professional, her legal writing was incredible, her research and her paralegal were peerless and her lawyer associates beyond reproach. I was never in the dark about the process. Never once. One of the first documents I received from Emma was an outline of expectations including the potential timeline, the steps that ultimately lead to a settlement or a trial and a pledge to each other that within a day of contacting each other for any reason we would return that communication within 48hrs. Lastly, what could have taken a year or two was wrapped up nicely in 7 months! I could go on, but I'll sum it up like this. In all my life no one has advocated for me so thoroughly and with so much professionalism and tenacity. As I stated there is no guarantee of compensation or reward, but I NEVER felt like that was a factor. She won for me and without her truly knowing she saved me from a setback that could have negatively impacted my life for years to come. She took a risk on me and was confident in her ability and mine that we could win and in a way that lawyers do she cared for me. She'll never know how much that confidence in me was part of what helped me get through that time in my life. That IS what makes Emma Denny and her team true and genuine Champions of the People. They didn't even bother to look at my case of retaliation in the work place. If they can't see themselves win they won't take the case cowards. I'll handle it myself then no matter the outcome. Cowards it's probably because I'm not a white woman that they refuse to help even though I have a solid case. 90% of these reviews are bought.
