Being is a situation of being wrongfully terminated out of the blue by DHS was devastating and there was a number of us all in the same situation together. We talked with several lawyers and none of them were willing to step up and take the case for us until we met with Media Law. Ashwin got his team started right away and was ready to take on the state. Now lets talk about Tara Jensen. The amount of time and effort this amazing woman put into our case was astronomical! She had 10's of thousands pages of documents thrown at her and painstakingly went through each document to find every line to help our case. She was direct and to the point during depositions and never wavered when opposing council was taking bulling to the next level, yet remaining kind, personable and reassuring to me the entire time. This was a 5 year process and we could not have asked for a better team of people to get us through it and did not even imagine a more favorable outcome against a powerful employer. If you ever find yourself in a situation like this please stop your search for an attorney here and call Media Law immediately. You will never find a better team of lawyers to fight for you and always make you feel like you and your case matter.

I am thankful to have been represented by Madia Law throughout a long battle against a large, powerful public entity. Myself and 3 co-plaintiffs had a complex employment case with multiple claims including wrongful termination, sexual harassment, and a whistleblower claim. My interactions with all Madia Law team members were phenomenal. Tara worked tirelessly through thousands of pieces of evidence to help build a strong case. Tara and Ashwin were always available to answer questions, provide reassurance and give honest, realistic advice - always with the best interests of myself and fellow co-plaintiffs in mind. Tara & Ashwin were personable, yet fierce fighters, advocates and negotiators. In the end, we were able to gain a large settlement without needing a jury trial, but the team was well prepared to dominate in court if needed. I highly recommend the Madia Law team. Thank you Tara, Ashwin, and team! You are stand-up people & should be proud of your efforts to fight for what is right.

I had an awful situation happen behind closed doors (I had no real proof of the incident.. just my word against another’s) but I reported it immediately after it happened, made a police report, and filed formal complaints with who I could. I have never had any experience with attorneys and had no idea where to turn - or even if an attorney could help me in any real way. I just googled attorneys, specifying the event that occurred, and told my story to several law offices that told me they did not want to take my case as it was too much of a “you said they said” situation, until I found Madia Law. I could write a book full of the positive experiences I’ve had with Ashwin Madia and his team. Every step of the way everyone was extremely professional (and down to Earth at the same time) and I always felt like they were in my corner. They were always patient with me regarding the many questions I had along the way. Like other reviews have said, Ashwin and his team are very knowledgeable, always took time to explain things that I didn’t quite understand and ultimately it was very easy to put my trust in them. They always included me on the steps they were taking, letters they received/wrote, and never made key decisions without my input one way or another. Truly what an attorney should be - making sure my rights were protected through the process but never putting anything above how I felt in the moment(s) and what I was comfortable with. Due to the nature of my situation, I didn’t assume that there would be an outcome other than me just doing the right thing by reporting what had occurred (even if nothing really came of it - it would at least be on record). However to my surprise, Ashwin and his team managed to obtain a very satisfactory outcome for me and one that I am extremely grateful for. Ashwin, you are 100% a stand up guy, keep doing what you’re doing. Thank you (and your team) for everything you’ve done for me and for taking a case such as mine when others wouldn’t. I would strongly recommend Madia Law to anyone reading this & looking for solid representation. All the best to you Ashwin & team!

A shareholder of theirs is a corrupt judge and therefore they are just like anyone they're affiliated with and whose conduct they condone.

I am an independent contractor - commissioned sales rep - and wanted advice about choice of law and where would be the best location to file a lawsuit for unpaid commissions. Craig helped me by analyzing my potential claim and the applicabilty of Minnesota laws to my case. Specifically, he addressed the Minnesota Termination of Sales Representatives Act and Minnesota Statutes 181.145 as it might apply to a contractor not located in or having territory including Minnesota (the company not paying commissions is located in MN). He was able to boild down a stack of paperwork to the most important details in a very short period of time. Craig was honest, clear, puctual and truly had my best interests in mind during our meetings. The entire staff, especially Kelly Fiege, were very helpful and supportive. I recommend Craig for any contract or commision related dispute that a person may have.

I consider calling Craig Trepanier to represent me to be one of the best decisions I have made. Craig Trepanier and Mike McCain completely immersed themselves in the intricacies of my case and worked tirelessly to achieve a favorable outcome. They were sensitive to the fact that I had limited resources available with which to defend myself, and always gave candid, sound advice about how best to use those resources. In the course of my legal case I quickly learned that there is a huge range in the quality of representation provided by different employment law firms. I absolutely recommend Trepanier & MacGillis to anyone involved in an employment law dispute.

Over the 13 years I’ve known and worked with Elliot, I have come to understand his passion for the practice of law and unique/difficult personal injury cases. He is energized to learn new things in order to fully understand the intricacies of a case. He is intelligent, organized, down to earth, compassionate and extremely kind. Because I have the utmost trust in him, I have referred several people to Elliot over the years and if the day comes that I need him, he’ll be my only call.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Minneapolis, Minnesota?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
