Mark was patient with me, I didn’t even know what I was doing or getting into but I knew I needed help getting my record expunged. He walked me through every step while explaining to me clearly what it was that I needed to do on my behalf to get this done. This was the best experience I’ve ever had speaking and working with another individual. If you want someone to take your matters, feelings, questions etc seriously I wouldn’t work with anyone other than Mark Herman; he is the embodiment of what an Attorney should be. I’m very blessed and pleased to have gotten the pleasure to work with him. Thanks to Mark my life gets another chance!

I retained Mark to have a misdemeanor expunged. He was extremely thorough and had a detailed understanding of what was needed for a successful expungement. He was always respectful and professional in his communication. He was not cheap, and I felt I got my money's worth.

I hired Mr. Herman to assist me with two cases, and he went above and beyond every step of the way. He was always very prompt when answering any questions I had, and never gave me the sense of impatience or inconvenience, instead he always had a welcoming attitude and always took the time to answer my questions and concerns. He was extremely thorough with great attention to detail, not only with my questions, but in explaining everything I needed to know as well completing the paperwork, and he managed to help me win both cases. In short he gave me my life back and the chance to create a future without any hindrance. Not only that, but his pricing was very reasonable, however having got my life and future back is priceless, and is something I will always be grateful to him for. I very highly recommend Mr. Herman, as he will work relentlessly to help you with any matters you bring to him.

After calling numerous expungement lawyers, I was happy to find Mark because he did exactly what he said he could do in our initial meetings before I retained him. Mark was also affordable compared to other lawyers. Whenever I had questions, Mark returned my calls promptly. He also listened to everything about my case and was helpful from many angles of what to expect and what to do in my situation. I am pleased that my expungement was granted and the services that Mark provides as well as his expertise with expungements. Mark was available to talk even when I had questions that seemed trivial to other lawyers and knew exactly what to do and how to approach my expungement case. Thank you, Mark, so much for helping me and getting my life back so that I am able to find employment and feel normal again!

Thank you so much Mark for helping me win my case. I truly appreciate it. Id recommend you to anyone in need of a great criminal defense attorney. He is very knowledgeable and well spoken while in and out of the court room. If I hade a question he would answer it to the best of his ability. He was always available for me when I called. He also emailed me everything I needed in a timely manner. He called right away when he received the email of my expungement . I was so happy and elated with the news. He really takes care of his clients, I'm glad I came across Mark on the internet. With so many to chose from I took a chance on Mark and he sure came through for me.

I am an independent contractor - commissioned sales rep - and wanted advice about choice of law and where would be the best location to file a lawsuit for unpaid commissions. Craig helped me by analyzing my potential claim and the applicabilty of Minnesota laws to my case. Specifically, he addressed the Minnesota Termination of Sales Representatives Act and Minnesota Statutes 181.145 as it might apply to a contractor not located in or having territory including Minnesota (the company not paying commissions is located in MN). He was able to boild down a stack of paperwork to the most important details in a very short period of time. Craig was honest, clear, puctual and truly had my best interests in mind during our meetings. The entire staff, especially Kelly Fiege, were very helpful and supportive. I recommend Craig for any contract or commision related dispute that a person may have.

I consider calling Craig Trepanier to represent me to be one of the best decisions I have made. Craig Trepanier and Mike McCain completely immersed themselves in the intricacies of my case and worked tirelessly to achieve a favorable outcome. They were sensitive to the fact that I had limited resources available with which to defend myself, and always gave candid, sound advice about how best to use those resources. In the course of my legal case I quickly learned that there is a huge range in the quality of representation provided by different employment law firms. I absolutely recommend Trepanier & MacGillis to anyone involved in an employment law dispute.

Over the 13 years I’ve known and worked with Elliot, I have come to understand his passion for the practice of law and unique/difficult personal injury cases. He is energized to learn new things in order to fully understand the intricacies of a case. He is intelligent, organized, down to earth, compassionate and extremely kind. Because I have the utmost trust in him, I have referred several people to Elliot over the years and if the day comes that I need him, he’ll be my only call.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Minneapolis, Minnesota?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
