Five stars doesn’t feel like enough to give this team, so I encourage you to read this entire review as what happened to my family was life-changing. Three years ago, my husband had a routine surgery and developed severe complications just hours following. The lack of care received following his surgery ultimately impacted our entire future. My husband is permanently disfigured and his relationship with myself and our children was deeply fractured. I received Mr. Dworak’s name from a colleague and decided to explore whether we had a case or if he would even entertain it. I’ve learned medical malpractice cases are difficult to prove and rarely return a verdict in favor of plaintiffs. Mr. Dworak took time to review our notes, medical records, and believed in our story so much he agreed to fight for us—despite all odds stacked against us. My husband and I were going up against one of the largest medical corporations in the Midwest. Paul Dworak and Jeff Storms gave us a voice and a platform to share our story…and to prove in a court of law what happened to us should never have happened. In front of six jurors our story was shared… argued… and BELIEVED. Paul and Jeff’s tenacity… their ability to uncover truths… and their desire to fight for people who wouldn’t stand a chance against a powerhouse is what makes this team life changing for so many people. My family included. I will never be able to thank Paul and Jeff enough for believing in us, for fighting for us, and for dedicating their careers to doing this same thing for others. Thank you Paul and Jeff for showing the world the people with all the power don’t always win. If you’re reading this and need help like we did, this is your team. They’ll never stop fighting for you.

The most successful, authentic, and genuine firms and entities are the ones with almost all 5-Star reviews and a few 1 Star reviews.... There has never been more incentive than to discredit good attorneys seeking to defend the people in a city stacked with Fortune 500 companies, lawyers, and interests. The people at this firm are brilliant individuals that could easily be working in DC if they wanted to, but choose to support the community they operate in.....these painfully fake reviews just show how out of touch these hedge fund players and their lackeys are with reality.

After reading the reviews, I'm so glad this trash firm didn't take my case. People please research before hiring a firm to represent you. Unorganized, unprofessional and unreliable. The aide didn't even take thorough notes to share my case for follow up. Please don't just Google firms like I did actually ask around, research and read reviews.

My experience with this firm last nearly 5 months. During this time their response time was unbelievable. Naomi got back to me with answers to my questions quickly making sure I had what I needed to make decisions I needed to make. Their team was professional, wise, and caring. They were honest and ethical at every turn. I would recommend talking with Naomi Martin before you decide on another firm. She is a the kind of lawyer you'd want on your side.

I am an independent contractor - commissioned sales rep - and wanted advice about choice of law and where would be the best location to file a lawsuit for unpaid commissions. Craig helped me by analyzing my potential claim and the applicabilty of Minnesota laws to my case. Specifically, he addressed the Minnesota Termination of Sales Representatives Act and Minnesota Statutes 181.145 as it might apply to a contractor not located in or having territory including Minnesota (the company not paying commissions is located in MN). He was able to boild down a stack of paperwork to the most important details in a very short period of time. Craig was honest, clear, puctual and truly had my best interests in mind during our meetings. The entire staff, especially Kelly Fiege, were very helpful and supportive. I recommend Craig for any contract or commision related dispute that a person may have.

I consider calling Craig Trepanier to represent me to be one of the best decisions I have made. Craig Trepanier and Mike McCain completely immersed themselves in the intricacies of my case and worked tirelessly to achieve a favorable outcome. They were sensitive to the fact that I had limited resources available with which to defend myself, and always gave candid, sound advice about how best to use those resources. In the course of my legal case I quickly learned that there is a huge range in the quality of representation provided by different employment law firms. I absolutely recommend Trepanier & MacGillis to anyone involved in an employment law dispute.

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Minneapolis, Minnesota?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
