I was in an accident this January that was just the sort of case you would think insurance was invented for: I got hit by a car on my walk to work. I was in the crosswalk and everything. I focused on healing in the hospital and did not think much of how much it was going to cost, because I just assumed the insurance system would work for me. I had never been in an ambulance before or spent a night in the hospital, but I was there for three days, and the bill was $25,000. Pam was recommended to me as soon as I got home. My driver's insurance company did not want to pay to cover the accident at first. I was pretty stressed out to think that I would suddenly owe thousands of dollars for getting hit by a car, on top of the thousands I had lost not being able to work for well over a month.
