I worked with this wonderful team Katie and Amanda for my divorce. They were so helpful and patient. It was a difficult divorce and many times, they not only took care of the legal matters, but they also helped me calm down and understand what was going on. They are professional but they make you feel that you are their friend. They not only advise, but they also listen! I don't want to have to hire them again (because of a divorce) but I certainly would - hands down.

Mrs. Ingrid and her team were absolutely outstanding! During an uncertain time, Mrs. Ingrid made me feel heard and supported. She provided insight every step of the way and I couldn’t have asked for a better lawyer to work with! I would absolutely recommend choosing their firm. We received an excellent outcome in a very prompt timeline. Forever grateful for Mrs.Ingrid and her team!!!

Hello Scott, We just wanted to thank you for taking on my case and we are very grateful for the outcome. You explained things to us when we didn't get what was happening, (my mind just goes blank when I'm nervous) and you were always pleasant to work with. Thank you so much!

So did intake with Claire or her paralegal and it was horrible, first she seemed already aggravated. So she was extremely harsh over the phone, she kept telling me in different ways, she wanted to turn down the case. At the same time, I told her, she didn't set a schedule, my paperwork isn't in front of me. Then said,"I don't see racial discrimination as a charge in your case," I was lost. I didn't see my case information in front of me, so I was seriously confused. I didn't think my case was racial discrimination, so I hung up as quickly as possible. Eventhough she was trying to leave out, attempting to be nice, I hung up. I didn't feel comfortable with somebody mean spirited taking my case, because when people like that have a bad day everything is down the toilet. So later on, I look up my case and it was Disability, IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH RACIAL DISCRIMINATION. Her behavior to me was in fact racist, denying people of service because of color. She tried her best to cancel the call even if she gave the wrong information, if she would have read the atleast 60 page document. She would have atleast known, what the case was about, instead she totally disrespected me because I was judge off of me, not the case. I called back, when I found out the error just to explain, the office manager refused to take responsibility. Saying, "I'm sorry to hear that but every attorney has the right to turn down cases," then I say, "even if they miss categorize the case." She says, "sorry but yea,"I say, "if I'm a owner I would want to know if my employee was making these types of mistakes." Then she repeated and went NPC, hey I don't know Heimerl and Lammers but if my employees was that horrible. I would want to know, because a business mentality, doesn't pass up on money. If I found out someone lost out on $300,000 in my pocket I would be pissed. I wouldn't have done this if the office manager knew how to deal with people, without being a NPC.

I have hired her thru all my immigration process from my K1 visa to my recent green card removal of conditions. She pays attention to all details and requirements so that there would be no issue or mistake on my papers. She did a good job helping me with my removal of conditions because I had been divorced with my petitioner and that makes it difficult to process but thankfully Deborah is very knowledgeable about this issue and helped me get through it. I would definitely hire her again when I do immigration related stuff because I know she will help me get through it right with no problems.

We used Deborah through the entire process from applying for K-1/K-2 visas to having the Naturalization certificate in hand. The process was flawless, painless and couldn't have been better. Four years from K-1 to citizenship seems long but is astonishingly fast by USCIS standards!

I was unsure how to proceed in my immigration case. I contacted Ms. Bryan and after asking me specific questions she recommended a course of action and in 3 months I got the work authorization. I recommend this lawyer she helped me a lot to sort out my case. I had contacted other lawyers who did not ask me the questions Ms. Bryan did. I’m very grateful for what she is doing. Thank you!

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Minnetonka, Minnesota?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
