Pros
1
Caring and compassionate approach, with the lawyer truly having the client's best interest in mind
“She was caring and compassionate and she made sure I understood every aspect of the agreement and possible outcomes. Not only was she very professional, but so personal. She truly had my family's best interest.”
2
Excellent communication and keeping the client informed throughout the process
“She always made me feel as if my case was her top priority. I would highly recommend Meredith.”
3
Personalized attention and willingness to work with the client's financial situation
“She also knew that as a single mother finances were tight for me and she was happy to work with me in that area as well.”
4
Demonstrated expertise and competence in handling complex legal matters
“Meredith handled my case competently, effectively and it was clear that she cared.”
5
Going above and beyond for the client, including personal touches
“Meredith truly went above and beyond the normal estate administration. She even brought a special flower to the adoption hearing for our daughter, making a special occasion.”
Cons
1
Concerns about overcharging and inflating time spent on the case
“She claims she did things for a certain period of time, and when I talked to the person she talked to during that time, they said it was drastically less time. When I got a new attorney and they reviewed her charges, they confirmed she overcharged.”
2
Lack of attentiveness and poor communication in some cases
“She didn't do anything for my case, so I got another attorney and I regret wasting so much time and money with her services. She talked down to me when she didn't agree, and for what she was charging she could have pretended to be nice.”

I worked with Meredith with a case, and have had a painless, smooth experience. She was always very responsive with same-day replies to my emails, she quickly processed a large number of case-related documentation I sent over, and she really gave me the impression that someone is looking out for my interests, and not just doing the minimum of what I exactly asked. She suggested multiple "have you considered x/y" scenarios. For revisions on paperwork she sent it with all the changed parts highlighted compared to the previous draft, which was very helpful as the paperwork started getting larger. During the case 90%+ of the time we had to wait for the other side's attorney, since Meredith was able to get all action items taken care of on our side very quickly. I would highly recommend her, and if in the future I would need to work with a family attorney again she would definitely be my first choice!

I would highly recommend Meredith and her staff. From our first meeting they were professional, empathetic and trustworthy. I had no idea what I was doing, but Meredith was always available for any questions or concerns I had. I always felt my feelings and concerns were validated. I owe it to Meredith and her team for a smooth and quick outcome.

Our attorney, Merideth Boudrie, from Central MN Law was great. She put together our wills, power of attorney, and transfer on death, etc. We are very happy from beginning to end how it was done. Thank you.

Chris Johnson has represented me on two occasions. Several years ago my father had a stroke and I became his primary caregiver. I was teaching middle school at the time and spending every spare minute as with my father. This situation began to take a deleterious toll on my health as anxiety and sleeplessness set in. I went to my physician for help and they prescribed medications that created opioid addiction. It was a brutal situation and, long story short, I ended up with DUI charge. Chris guided me through the prosecution system and saw my case to a successful conclusion. My second case involved my dog Molly being unjustly accused and Chris saw this to a successful outcome as well. I am glad I he has had my back as going up against the justice system alone would be a major problem!

My attorney experience has been top notch, everything form the planning, the gathering of information. Carly was open and clear, she was real about what I could expect during the divorce process. The staff was kind and friendly, communications were done in a good time. I am so grateful for the hard work, professionalism; from all the staff.

I hired Carly to help me through my divorce. She is a consummate professional and I appreciated her pragmatic approach. A strong and capable negotiator, she tried to find the best solution rather than unnecessary litigation. All of my questions were answered and explained in a way to make sure I understood the reasoning. The process is arduous, but I always felt listened to and it was reassuring to have a team that I felt was always in my corner. I would definitely recommend Carly to any friend who was in similar circumstances.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Monticello, Minnesota?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
