Dan was able to negotiate the exact outcome we discussed. His knowledge and experience was the difference in my case.

When I met Dan I was already on felony probation in another county with 60 months over my head there was all kinds of issues with my case due to my prior record from when I was young Dan stood by my side and fought for me Like nobody else ever has I truely felt things worked out fair for me for once.i couldn’t have possibly hoped for a better outcome,Dan basically saved my family.ill be forever greatful and I highly reccomend him 100 times over . -I was put on probation for 15 years with 60 months over my head for shooting a deer on private land that my grandfather had just passed away and left the shack and 600 acres to me my father and brother,I had been going there from bemidji several times to hunt grouse and deer I was a felon and shouldn’t have been doing so.but the gun was there locked in safe I never once was on public roads or public anything the shermoens in koochiching county abused there power and came into our land and were asking personal questions and being snoopy they then ran my name and found I wasn’t eligible to be hunting on the land my father was raised on and that was left to me.after 3 years into probation some laws changed in Minnesota and rather than 15 years supervised probation it was reduced to 5 years I did so good not a violation for 4 years then a cop in beltrami lied in order to obtain a search warrant and got my Home raided Wich was causing koochiching to want to execute the 60 months I had hanging over me on probation,Dan won us a franks hearing Wich allowed us to make a deal with them that garunteed I didn’t have to ever sit a day on the original 60 months and I got off having to sit 4 months, It was an emotional Roller coaster but Dan was there for me Every step of the way I felt confident and in good hands at every court hearing Wich was never the case with my lawyers in my younger years. Meeting Dan was a blessing and he gave me a 2nd chance at being apart of my family -Derek Barnes-218 Bemidji MN-

In early 2022 my 21-year-old son was arrested and charged with 7 felonies and his bail was set at a million dollars. His Public defender encouraged him to take a 1st degree sales charge right away. I called around a handful of criminal defense attorneys that quoted me outrageous fees to retain their services and the tone in their voices seemed so grim. Everything changed when I contacted Repka Law. Dan called me back the same day. He was so upbeat, positive, and ready to take on the task of getting the best possible outcome for my son. It was 3 days before my son’s next hearing and Dan said immediately he wanted to be there to let it be known that my son would not be rolling over to a plea deal - and that he would fight for my son as if he were his own. Needless to say, he got the job! My son’s case took over a year in District Court–in that time Dan filed several motions to try and have his bail reduced and to ask for opportunities for him to go to treatment (he had everything lined up and ready if they agreed). Each motion was denied, and we all were getting frustrated and feeling defeated, but Dan never gave up the good fight or lost hope. Dan and I were in regular communication, and he called me before and after every hearing; to say I texted him a lot over the past few years would be an understatement :) He was always super responsive and supportive. He also had regular legal calls with my son throughout the entire process. After Dan had looked over the evidence, or lack thereof, he concluded in his opinion that the search warrant lacked probable cause and the entire case should be dismissed. The district court disagreed. My son ended up not accepting any plea, was found guilty at a court trial on 1 charge of 2nd Degree Possession and sentenced to 48 months in prison. Dan subsequently filed an appeal and argued my son’s case at the MN Court of Appeals like a RoCkStAr!! We lost a lot of battles along the way in District Court, but Dan ultimately won the war – and with a Precedential Published opinion at that! Justice prevailed! My son’s entire conviction was reversed/vacated and he was able to walk out of Prison after 27 months of incarceration- free from any type of supervision or parole and is now starting the process of getting his civil rights restored and the immediate expungement from his record. My family will forever be grateful for Dan – I cannot thank him enough for never giving up and for seeing this to the end. I consider him a dear friend and trusted confidant. I honestly could not have made it through all of this without his kindness, support, wisdom, patience, empathy, and great sense of humor. Dan knows the law; he has the endurance to keep fighting fearlessly for your rights and is not intimidated to face any legal battle. If you find yourself in a fight against any criminal charge Dan is who you want and need by your side! His staff Mary and Andrea were also very respectful and supportive throughout this entire ordeal and deserve a shoutout as well! Thank you all for everything!

I worked with Lesley Guyton for my wife's permanent residency application (marriage to a permanent resident). Due to the recent Covid restrictions our case unexpectedly became complex. However, Lesley was thoroughly professional, knowledgeable and helped us at every step. In the end, everything worked out well and my wife was successful in obtaining the green card without any RFEs or hiccups. Personally, Lesley is a great and a kind hearted person and really cares about the case unlike other immigration firms out in the city interested in the case just for monetary reasons. Those firms in the city will not hesitate to charge you extra whenever they can. I would highly recommend Lesley and her firm for immigration needs.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Saint Paul, Minnesota?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
