We cared for a child for four years as she was our own. One day child protection knocked on our door and began proceedings to place our daughter back with the biological parents who left her with us in the first place! As I tried to trust the "system" to do the right thing; it became clear that the wrong thing was going to happen. This child would go back to homeless parents who had been collecting benefits from the county for four years while we raised their biological daughter as she was our own. The social worker was conflicted and warned us that this would be a long and painful process. We called Samantha, she met with us, and she knew the ropes of the family and juvenile courts. We had a permanent legal transfer of custody within months! She was trustworthy, responsive and knowledgeable.
