Overall decent experience but left disappointed. Came here for Valentine’s Day. I had a reservation but the restaurant was running behind by about 25 minutes. Went over to the bar to grab a drink and the service was pretty poor there. When I got seated, I was tucked into what seemed like a side room, separate from the rest of the restaurant. Dinner service was good but food was only okay for the price.

This was one of the worst experiences I have had in awhile. We were at bar area which was meh nothing really spectacular. Our server came over and started with good service but ended it bad. We ordered a variety of shareable food the deviled eggs, cheese curds and onion petals, a burger and the spinach dip. My friends also had a lemon drop and the plum mule. The food was terrible as a matter of fact some of the worst bar food I have ever had. The dip tasted so artifical and all you could taste was cheese, the burger was ok but the thick cheese that was on there was disgusting and barely melted, the deviled eggs had shrimp that wasn't cooked on top and it was gross and the cheese curds were just cheese nothing fancy. We waited for some time for the server to come back which I then let her know the dip and the eggs we did not like and wanted off the bill. She said no problem and took the eggs but left the dip. So we waited and waited and someone else came to the table we gave them the dip and then waited for her to come back over. Her service has now changed from good to bad and we sit quite some time before she comes over. When she does she asks how did we want the check split we tell her in four ways she says ok and then comes back and drops a bill off not split. I look at the bill and the eggs are off but not the dip so I tell the server who snatches the bill (she is mad now) and tells us she can't split the bills even though she is the one who asked. So we wait and wait again mind you its 7pm our reservation was for 530 and we are still sitting there. The server stops back by about 5 minutes later to tell us she is having her manger take it off the bill but he is taking his sweet time. Next thing you know out comes the manager who stops over to the table and asks us what was wrong and if our service was bad. We proceed to tell him about the foods that were supposed to be taken off the bill and he argues with us that the best he can do is a gift card we tell him we didn't want a gift card and we need our money ASAP!!! We would never come back there so why argue over $22. My friend tells him what he is going to do is take it of and bring the bill so we can pay he argues some more stating the server said we ate half of it blah blah then agrees. The server who is now pissed comes back and says I'm sorry he felt the need to come do that and leaves the bill doesn't come back for awhile so my friend has to find her on the way to the bathroom just to get the bill paid. The bill was $138 ridiculous for that overpriced, nasty food they sure didn't deserve it and we will never come back!! -trash food -trash service -pathetic manager

It's been really great working with Pat and Robbin. Individual cases are likely all pretty complicated (even the "simple" ones) and mine was no exception. I know Robbin spent quite a bit of time working to gather information, make calls to various interested parties (many multiples of times) to move the process forward, and communicated with me whenever needed. Pat was able to go through and explain the process and procedures, prep me for what to expect and give me sage advice on how to tell my story. Life gets busy, but you can trust that this team will continue to grind against the corporate machine so you don't have to. My life was greatly impacted by my accident but having support from this team has taken a lot of the stress off of my shoulders. Thank you!

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Saint Paul, Minnesota?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
