Pros
1
Effective in handling disability and social security cases
“Mr Burrell took on my case & consistently kept in contact. His staff was also very helpful. Upon meeting Mr Burrell, I could tell he was a caring person who wanted the best outcome for me, his client. He is a professional with heart. He knows his business of law to the T. He was exceptionally instrumental in my positive outcome in my Social Security Disability outcome. I recommend him 100%.”
2
Hardworking and committed to client cases
“It has been a long and hard fight to get the benefits that I rightly deserve but due to the professionalism and knowledge of Mr. Burrell I found out yesterday that I was approved. I would like to thank Mr. Burrell for his hard work and commitment to my case that allowed us to prevail.”
3
Effective in securing settlements and benefits for clients
“Andrew got a full settlement for me and my passenger however there was less insurance by the at fault driver than what my total bills added up to. He worked with the medicals to get a compromise on the billing and still managed to have some for my pocket.”
Cons
1
Poor communication and responsiveness with clients
“whenever I would call with questions regarding my case he would always have the worst attitude and would be very short with me making me feel uncomfortable to call”
2
Delayed in providing updates and taking action on cases
“Called for a form to file a claim almost 2 weeks ago and still haven't received it. I know it doesn't take that long to place a form in an envelope and put it in a mailbox.”
3
Lack of transparency and follow-through with client matters
“My children were in a vehicle accident and we hired Andrew as their attorney and went through several court appearances and signed over settlement check to be put in a trust for my younger child but have never heard anything from andrew nor the financial institution where he has the trust setup.”

I am not a person that has great communication skills. Mr Burrell worked with me to speak concisely and state facts without inserting my opinions and things that were not relevant. I know for a fact without Andrews's help I would not have won my disability case. Thank you, Mr Burrell, for the professional help you provided me.

Mr Burrell represented me for a disability claim and got the job done. I tried to do this on my own and failed. Mr. Burrell knew exactly how to frame the case on facts. His expertise was key to get a favorable response from the Administrative Law Judge at the hearing. I highly recommend Attorney Andrew Burrell for your legal needs.

I would highly recommend William Wessler as your attorney. He is kind and very helpful. Did step by step procedures. Explained everything in terms I could understand. Will also be thankful I found him as my attorney. I googled best bankruptcy lawyer in Gulfport and his name came up. Again, I would highly recommend him. If I know of anyone that needs a great attorney, I would definitely send them to him.

Mrs. Ida Henley helped me out tremendously after my wreck dealing with the legal side. Before having her as my attorney I was dealing with recovering from my car accident and doctors appointment, but I was also stressing about getting the money I deserved to be able to heal and recover from my accident. She made it incredibly easy and took a huge weight off my shoulders. I didn’t have to worry about a thing! She was on top of everything from contacting the insurance companies to contacting to other driver’s attorney. She handled everything so fast and stayed on top of getting me settled. She made sure to try every avenue before settling against the other driver’s attorney. I’m truly grateful to have had her during these hard times. She was everything I needed from an attorney and more!

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Gulfport, Mississippi?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
