Honestly you'd be better off settling with the insurance company. Things started off well I think but it didn't take long for me to regret my decision to hire this firm. I took my own documents like the police report and everything I had from my insurance company to the first meeting. After several months passed with no communication I decided to go to the office in person to see how things were progressing. Not one single person there had even read the police report as I had to explain the accident all over again. I was told they were taking care of business now and to not worry, I would hear from them soon. Fast forward a few more months and still nothing. I called, emailed and was told this part takes time. Fair enough. A few more months and no progress had been made so I go up to the office again. This time we sit down in the conference room with a paralegal and Jr attorney. They explained what had been done so far and it was all wrong. I had to explain it all over. Again. I said we are not going after MY insurance company and so I told the story. Again. They would have known who the responsible party was if they had actually read the report. We are now more than 8 months in at this point and yet no one seems to know what's going on. They assured me there would be more "hands" touching my file and not to worry. 1 year into this and all I have is a bunch of promises and no results. I try to fire them but they tell me it's all worth it and to stick it out. The first demand letter is drafted and sent to the correct party. Finally. Typical negotiations with the back and forth so I'm being patient. Let me add that I was told the first demand sent was based off my medical bills, pain and suffering etc. It was a little south of 100K. Long story short, a year and a half into this ordeal and not a lot of progress or communication has taken place. I told them I wanted to go to trial since the other party was not budging on negotiations but they said juries in Madison County weren't sympathetic. I would only come out a few hundred dollars more they said. If this had taken place in Hinds County it might be different. I was dissuaded from pursuing the matter any further because it wouldn't work out in my favor. A few weeks later I fired them. I was told that their 33% plus fees from them getting medical reports and other various work they did would be expected IF I obtained another attorney. I said I would not get another attorney and I didn't. A lien was placed with the insurance company who was trying to settle with me. The number was based off their last and only 2nd round of negotiations. About 16K. In the end, Maggio collected their 33%, although my case was not won. They also collected about $700 for fees that I never saw an itemized bill for. The day after I fired them they called all the providers and my own insurance company to tell them they weren't represented me anymore and to get with the other insurance company to put more liens on my case. They did. I already knew I was responsible for my medical bills but Maggio went out of their way to ensure I would get nothing from this and I actually ended up owing so be careful who you choose after an accident.
