Nell is knowledgeable and gets the end result in court but it's her paralegal Janet that is awesome! She did so much for me as the executor in my mothers probate with a uncooperative sibling. I am very thankful, thanks Janet.

I had a very hard time with a messy divorce and trying to keep my kids safe. Ms. Adams was always there for me. She knows exactly what to do and is a wonderful lawyer. She has done lots of these kinds of cases and knows the court system inside and out. She did so much work for me! And her fees were all spelled out at the beginning, not nearly as high as other lawyers I talked to. Anyway, she and her paralegal did a great job for me and I thank them.

My husband and I agreed on the terms of our split. This lawyer was supposed to help us write up our agreement. But instead, she worked to create conflict between us -- and of course, made a lot of money for herself in the process. Out of control and self- serving. Stay away from this one!!!

The staff at Adams Law Firm are amazing. They are professional and provide excellent customer service which includes keeping the client informed of how their case is progressing. The pricing is also quite reasonable. Both Ms. Adams and her assistant Janet made an unpleasant situation bearable. I would not hesitate to recommend them to a friend or family member.

Thank You simply isn’t enough! I have my little girl and Mike made certain to protect my assets. This was a complete mess full of lies and in the end Mike made certain that the truth prevailed. Also pulled off a last second settlement leaving me more than grateful. Best, JC

One versital attorney... Personable and friendly to clients... But, a rockstar warrior in the arena! I was recommended, by an attorney, who said, he's the only person she'd use. You know he's awesome, when, other lawyers consider him a top pick! I'm a returning client and have recommended him to many friends. All who have were very pleased with their results and now recommend him to others. Opposing party will either, grimace or shutter, when you walk through the door with Mr. Leavitt.

Troy and his team are outstanding! He did everything he could for me and I are extremely pleased with the outcome. He was compassionate during my worries and always answered any questions we had. He’s very affordable, hard working and worth every penny. Truly there for his clients. I have used him for custody over my son and to get a ticket off my record. My fiance has used him for 2 major custody battles and a few other things and has done a great job along with his whole team. Everyone is welcoming and truly cares. Cant thank them all enough!!

Let me start by saying that I am the father of two beautiful children, and happily married to my second wife. I'm a blue collar guy that works construction 40+ hours a week, and I have nearly zero higher education. The reason I want anybody that reads this review to know this information is because throughout the last 10 months of my custody case, Dan made sure I knew what was going on. It's real easy to get lost and confused in all the legal talk, but Dan took the time to make sure I understood everything and all the previous grey areas in my prior parenting plan were cleared up. The end result of my case I was more than satisfied with. The custody arrangement was changed in my favor. The child support, address, and basically everything I asked for was changed in my favor. Some would call that a miracle, but I know the majority of it was because of Dan and his dedication to doing what's right. It was a rough road, just like any other custody case, but I knew Dan was looking out for me and the best interests of my two children. Although I pray I NEVER have to go down this rough road again, if I ever do Dan is the guy I want in my corner. He was honest, fair, and logical. I can't thank him enough for everything his firm did for me. All custody cases are different. All I can recommend is keep doing the right thing for your children. Don't let your own feelings get in the way. And definitely don't go into ANY kind of custody case out of spite for the other parent. Because EVIDENCE speaks louder than words. Good luck to anyone that may be experiencing what I just went through. Keep your head, and never stop being a good parent. One day the kids will see things for how they really are.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Blue Springs, Missouri?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
