We thoroughly enjoyed our time working with Rodney as our attorney. He was truly a compassionate and valuable strength to our delicate case. Rodney is authentic, trustworthy and incredibly hard-working individual. He was there every step of the way and ensured we understood all the legal rededications. Not only did he work during working hours but in many occasions was willing to work with us on best time to meet our busy schedules. Beyond that, Rodney’s inspiring personally makes it comfortable to speak resulting in win-win situations.

When tragedy struck and I was in need of legal assistance I was referred to Mr. Ames. I couldn't of asked for a more thorough, knowledgeable compassionate professional. Throughout the case, Rodney was supportive in addition to being sensitive of my emotional and physical trauma. Rodney worked relentlessly to build a strong case always keeping my best interests in mind while maneuvering through the sensitive nature of my circumstances. He was always prepared and very willing to answer questions from me and my family. His personal attention to detail was impeccable and he was always accessible when needed. Mr. Ames worked tirelessly on my behalf and was able to get a more than fair result helping to ease the pain of a tough situation. I am forever grateful and would highly recommend Mr. Ames.

Throughout each process he communicated clearly as to what to expect, our options and potential outcomes. He is a true professional in his field! We highly recommend Rodney.

Requiring the "need" to have a lawyer most likely means that life threw you a curve ball. And life becomes very stressful. But to have Mr. Ames on my side has definitely helped lower that stress and has provided much needed hope and happiness. He's a breath of fresh air after feeling like I was drowning. Some of the things I really appreciate are his abilities to truly break down the legal matter at hand to my understanding. He makes sure I really understand what's happening and what our approach is. He also encourages me to participate and listens to me when I have different ideas about our case. I also really appreciate the way he manages my expectations on immediate motions and court dates and the overall case in general. But most importantly, I appreciate our relationship. Being in a legal battle is a lonely road. And appropriately speaking, sometimes I feel like I'm the only person going through it. So it's been very uplifting and reassuring to have Mr. Ames in my corner. I know full heartedly that he has my back, like that one friend who defends you against a bully. It's nice to feel that he generally cares and is concerned, rather than being just another legal battle that he's dealing with. It's almost a weird thing to say that it's been a pleasure to be associated with him, considering that there's really nothing pleasurable about going through legal battles, but it's true. It has been a definite pleasure to be associated with Mr. Ames. If I ever have to be in this kind of predicament again, Mr. Ames is the first person I'm going to.

Lizzie and I had the most wonderful wedding and Paemon, as our officiant, was a big part of making that happen. Besides giving us clear and very helpful guidance he was very professional, personable and passionate about the process. I can't fully express how much we appreciate how he held such a big part in our special day unfolding without a hitch. Lizzie and I will be singing his praises for years to come!

Mathew Grundy is professional and knowledgeable. If you've been through the process of filing for disability, you know how daunting a task it it. I hired Mr. Grundy after I was denied my first time. This attorney and his staff are wonderful. From my first point of contact with Vanessa, to Nina and Mr. Grundy, I felt respected and listened to. All of my interactions were stress free and full of compassion and any questions I had along the way were answered promptly. Thank you Mr. Grundy and the staff I worked with. I am grateful for all of you and for my positive outcome.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Liberty, Missouri?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
