4
Skilled at writing effective appeal letters that can help overturn claim denials

I cannot thank Ashleigh enough for all the hard work she put into helping my daughter with her disability case. She took a chance on us (and on a very difficult case) when no one else would-- we literally checked with three other attorneys who all turned us down. After winning my daughter's hearing, I told Ashleigh that no matter what happened, "win or lose", we loved her and were so thankful for the respectful and compassionate way in which she treated my daughter. God Bless Ashleigh and her staff!

I can’t thank Ashleigh enough for the great job she did for me. The settlement she got me changed my life. I never dreamed I would ever get my bills paid off and be able to start saving some back. I feel wonderfully blessed to have been able to meet and work with her and her staff.

I had pushed through severe back pain for several years and continued to work. It was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made to admit that I could not longer work. I thought filing for short term and eventually long term disability would be a fairly smooth process, but they denied my claim. It was at that point that I knew i needed legal help. I had a picture in my mind of what it was going to be like having an attorney, but when I met Ashleigh, that picture quickly faded. I truly believe God directed me to her firm. She and her staff listened to my story and responded with compassion. I felt more like I was sitting among family than in an attorney's office. Ashleigh became extremely familiar with my medical records and conditions, and regularly kept me updated on how things were going. When it came to appealing my denial, Ashleigh wrote an amazing appeal letter. It took a few months to get the insurance company to "see the light" but when Ashleigh and her staff called to let me know that my claim had finally approved, I think they were almost as thrilled as I was. I cannot thank Ashleigh and MacPherson Law enough. They treated me with compassion and respect through the whole process...but more than that, they treated me like a friend. When people ask who helped me with my case, I proudly say, "MacPherson Law, they are amazing."

My family has had the opportunity of using Ashleigh's professional legal services twice over the last couple of years: once for a Social Security Disability claim; and just recently for a life insurance payout. In both instances, Ashleigh was extremely attentive to our needs and was able to provide professional counsel from the very onset of our first meeting with her. She was able to succinctly describe to us what it was that we needed to provide to her for her to accomplish her responsibilities. If there was any information that she had requested that we were unable to provide, Ashleigh knew how to go about obtaining the information that she needed. Upon receipt of this information, Ashleigh proceeded to diligently work on our behalf, with very little, if any, interruptions to our daily routines. In both of our experiences working with Ashleigh, my family couldn't have found a more responsive and knowledgeable counsel. Ashleigh accepted not only the responsibility of representing our interests, but she removed a lot of our own personal burden if we were to have gone through what we did without her assistance. I would strongly recommend Asleigh's professional legal counsel.

I really appreciated how easy they made this process. Anytime I had a question or concern I would e-mail their office and have a phone call back within almost the hour. After the case was settled there were still a few questions that came up a few weeks later and they were still helpful which I greatly appreciated. Thank you for everything!

Harris Law Firm was overall amazing with handling my custody case. The front office staff (Danielle & Valerie) both were super compassionate, understanding, and knowledgeable throughout the process. The firm as a whole also took the time to respond to messages in the my case portal swiftly, and I was never left wondering what was going to be the next step of the process. If you want a law office with integrity & empathy, this is the place to go to 🤌🏻 Highly recommend!

For never experiencing the process of divorce, I experienced a roller coaster of emotions along with congestion heart failure, I absolutely knew I couldn’t attempt to do it all on my own. Harris and law made it happen and all the emotions except my chf was relieved. I would say if I would find myself in a 2nd divorce I would quickly call Harris and Law , but one divorce was it for me. Thanks again Harris and Team

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Nixa, Missouri?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
