I have had the pleasure of having Kyle Sciolaro represent me on two cases and he has advocated on my behalf as if he knew me personally. He is detail oriented, driven and very dedicated to getting a fair and just settlement in every case. He is the best lawyer I have ever had the pleasure to talk to you and he would be my first choice every time.

I would highly recommend the Mr. Sciolaro at the BurnettDriskill law firm for anyone needing help working through the disability system and medical insurance. I worked with Mr. Kyle Sciolaro on my case for years. Anyone that is on disability knows that it’s a stressful, emotional process. Mr. Sciolaro was so patient, kind and compassionate with me not only getting through my disability insurance quickly.... but also working with UNUM Insurance which took years to fight he stayed in the fight with me! Because I have clarity issues with my brain Mr. Sciolaro was extra patient with me. I could not have gotten through this stressful process without his patience and understanding with my specific condition. it’s an ugly process to get through the insurance companies and Disability are not fun for anybody to work with. I don’t have the right words to express how much I appreciate Mr. Sciolaro’s compassion he went above and beyond for me and never gave up. He walked step by step with me on days when I had difficulties understanding he helped me understand the forms I was not able to fill out myself. He took his time and patience to give me examples so that I understood it clearly such a wonderful kind compassionate man. I could not have asked for a better person to get me through this. So thankful for all of his help. As long as we worked together it felt I had a real friend on my side. Some people you find along the way you feel should not be in certain professions. Mr. Sciolaro is a blessing to the people that he works with in this difficult kind of work. I wish more people had his kind of compassion in this world. Thank you so much for everything! You are a shining star in my book.

I retained John after a previous lawyer failed to keep pushing forward in my case, or doing anything for that matter. John has gone by the law, speaks to me realistically about my case, and has continuously pushed my case forward despite hurdles from the other party. Overall I feel like he's a great attorney because of his knowledge and history in this field.

Such a nice experience after a dead end - two hour search for an Attorney. Mr. Barlow took the time to call me back after office hours. He was the first attorney I was able to get in contact with. He was informative, and even though he could not help me with my issue, he asked questions and tried to help by thinking of who may be able. He cut to the chase, and was clear on his wording which I appreciated. His Paralegal was also extremely kind and helpful when I initially called. When I called and spoke with Mr. Barlow's Paralegal, she did not believe they would be able to take my case, however she still reached out to Mr. Barlow to see if he could help. He got back to me within one hour and shared what he could. I will go back to this law office when/if I have relevant needs due to this experience today.

My wife and I would like to recommend Bill Niffen, and also thank him for the wonderful service. We hired Mr. Niffen to help with my wife's immigration case. She received her residency card in five months due to his process, amazing! I can't say enough about this man's attention and character. He never made us feel like just another client. He truly cared about what happened and we will forever be grateful. Thank you Bill!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of North Kansas City, Missouri?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
