One of the smartest attorneys I have ever met. His satiric way of thinking is absolutely incredible. He wins every case. Go watch this man in Court. Holy Wow! I am not going in to detail on my case(s), but I can tell you this...I will never choose another attorney for any of my legal issues. Eric Wulff is the best. He may not call you back every time, but that is not because he is twiddling his thumbs, it is because he is throwing punches and fighting aggressively for you! And no I was not paid to type this. Kind, great, caring attorneys need to be recognized.

I have to say my experience with Eric and his paralegal was horrible. I had to call multiple times to get questions answered and Eric would never respond. He took 2500 dollars from me and promise to get order of protection for my child and he never filed through with it. When I asked for a budget his paralegal would always say she could not get a hold of him and he is in court. He ended up keeping my money and lying and saying he would get with his book keeper and never did. I would not recommend him or his staff. They will take your money and not help. I had to file a complaint with the bar to try and get my money back.

Eric is a good guy. I was referred by a friend, and I have referred several other folks. He has helped me with child custody, paternity, child support, and a felony case. His hourly rate is in the middle - not too high, not too low. He will work with you on payment if you explain your situation. I still owe him a little bit of money, and I'll make sure he gets every penny at tax time. He deserves it for handling my legal messes so well. I will say that it takes him a bit of time to respond to calls/emails sometimes, but he does always read/listen to them and get the job done. He was also able to immediately contact the right people regarding a potential felony charge that I'm currently dealing with - as in, I called his office in tears, and he called me back within a few hours and made several calls before it was even noon. This really helped ease my mind, as I was very scared. I like Eric because he's funny, trustworthy, and honest. He also has a very calming voice and isn't a jerk like some of the lawyers I've met. As of now, I have nothing bad to say about Mr. Wulff. I will come back and update if things change.

I am not good at writing, the wife does a better job. We are very proud that we are using Jones Elder Law. We have told a lot of people that they are the best. We have gone to several different meetings and theirs was clear to us and understanding, and they or very helpful.

We are so impressed with the Jones Elder Law team and highly recommend them for anyone planning for their future. Steve Jones took the time to really get to know us and our vision, and then fully explained all trust, will, and health declaration options for us to choose from for our situation. They are a very knowledgeable team with a real passion for helping seniors protect their legacy.

My husband and I are extremely happy with our experience with Jones Elder Law. Stephen and his team walked us through every step of the setting up of our trusts and was always available and happy to answer any of our questions. We now have such a piece of mind knowing that everything is in place to protecting our assets. We also really like the pricing model that Jones Elder Law uses. All in all, a great experience! We highly recommend Jones Elder Law!!

I recently contacted the firm about a custody modification and was pleasantly surprised by Erika's personality. She was knowledgeable about legal matters, but she didn't talk to me like I was an idiot when I asked questions (and I had plenty of them lol). I met with a different lawyer (not at this firm) prior to speaking with Erika, and I originally planned to work with him. A friend convinced me to call Flesner Wentzel instead because she felt like the first lawyer would not truly fight for my kids in the courtroom. I'm glad I listened to her. The prices for custody matters are very reasonable, and you can do a monthly payment plan. I'm a single parent, so knowing I can afford court without falling behind on other bills gives me peace of mind. I plan to hire this firm to represent me in the near future.

I had the extreme good fortune to have Erika Wentzel as my lawyer. I was going up against a New York stock exchange company that owns Plaza Mercedes West and knew it would be a tough fight against the big dog. Erika is very knowledgeable, prepared, and just overall excellent that I knew (and told her often) that no matter how it turned out she did the best job she could for me. I can not say enough great things about Erika. You are in great hands with Erika and her law firm. I strongly recommend Erika Wentzel and the Flesner Wentzel law firm of St. Charles, MO!!!!

My ex and I worked out an agreement for an uncontested divorce and we both wanted to make sure our divorce was finalized as soon as possible. Erika was able to get our divorce filed quickly and had the judgment signed on the 31st day after filing (the soonest it could legally be finalized). She has also drafted and reviewed several business contracts for me. She always makes helpful suggestions for amendments or additions. I am very happy with the services I have received.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Saint Charles, Missouri?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
