She's a friendly down to earth person. I met with her in regards to an eviction but it wasn't your typical landlord tenant eviction. I hired the same day I met with her. She was understanding & sounded like she was on top of things. Then a situation came about in regards to the eviction causing it to not be just a simple eviction process. I emailed her & then spoke with her on the phone the same day i hired her letting her know of a letter I had received in the mail. She said she needed a little more time then 30 seconds to process everything, which is understandable & she said she would get ahold of me. Days went by & I had emailed her & tried to call her & heard nothing back from her. This went on for a couple weeks at least. I totally get that I wasn't her only client & her time wasn't devoted to only me & that she was probably busy. It just would have been nice if she would have at least emailed me back to let me know she was going to need more time or let me know something instead of leaving me hanging. I finally decided to just ask for my money back. She then emailed letting me know she could mail me a check or i could pick it up! Kinda irritating that she could email for that but not respond with anything to my emails or phone calls. I was really looking forward to her representing me in the beginning because I loved her attitude, ways of thinking & I just felt comfortable with her. She did give me all of my money back without a problem!

The first time we called she answered the phone with a bad attitude. We hired Diane and asked her to wait on setting court date and sending evictions and she sent them out anyways. We wanted to wait for the abandonment paperwork to work and she did not respect that at all. We talked to her a total of 16 minutes and she charged us $500. Claimed we would get a full refund if we didn’t need her and then she went and made her self needed by doing whatever she wanted anyways and then went back on her word. She is the worst attorney I have ever heard from and I would NOT recommend going through her firm! Even other lawyers called her highly unprofessional because when she was called out she sent very rude emails out to them as well! Seriously don’t waste your time!

A few years ago, a much younger man attempted to romance-scam my 85-year-old mother and attempted to obtain a POA over her assets. Diane's advice was invaluable and prevented much greater disaster from occurring. She walked me through all the difficult steps to obtain guardianship and stood beside me in those tense moments before the judge. I owe her a very great debt.

Craig and his staff of attorneys did a fantastic job representing me in a divorce with multiple children and multiple properties involved. Of all attorneys I have dealt with Craig, focused on expenses and tax consequences more than any other. I would strongly recommend Craig to anyone seeking Family Law help in Missouri.

My husband and I hired Mr.Ritchie to represent us in our case to relocate to a different state with my children. My children's father was protesting the relocation. We talked to several different lawyers regarding relocation cases. Most advice was that it was a difficult case. Mr.Richie advised us that the outcome of these cases are hard to predict. I felt at ease after meeting Mr.Richie due to his experience and confidence. We won our case and the end result was better than I could have hoped for. I would recommend this lawyer to everyone. He truly went to bat for me and definitely worth every penny. Mr.Ritchie is determined, confident, and aggressive. If you are looking for you best chances of winning a case I would hire him.

Ken Siemens and all the employees of MTSE were extremely kind, compassionate, and professional for my personal injury case. They were not only concerned with my case but also were helpful when dealing with other aspects of my husband’s injuries. Anytime I had a question or concern, I received prompt, thoughtful and sensible advice. Their actions demonstrated the care and concern they had for what was best for my family. I have all the confidence that Ken and MTSE has the experience, prudence, and wisdom to handle cases like mine.

I was thrown in Brandis' lap at the last minute. SHE IS PHENOMINAL! She was an awesome attorney in court My Dr wanted me.placed in a 30 day program that I did not need. I was never in a court fighting for my freedom. Brandi got the Judge to see me & know I didn't need that program. Bramdi won! Which meant I was free & got to go home. Even though she only talked to me for 4 hours or less she was A MIRACLE WORKER for me.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Saint Joseph, Missouri?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
