When it comes to matters that effect you on a personal level where emotions and fears can surface, a good attorney will help you navigate the confusiong rules and process’s of your specific issue. I searched long and hard. Did my research and can honestly say without any complaint that Ambry not only is an exceptional attorney, who knows multiple faucets of law, but will always take the time to make sure you know what you are facing. I have had many attorneys in my line of work and will say she is by far my first choice. I will keep her on retainer for any matters I need legal advice, and help.

I consulted with a very well known attorney in the St. Louis area and he recommended I meet with Coulter/Lambson. I'm very fortunate for the recommendation! Ambry Schuessler was assigned to my case and met with me on day one. She was the epitome of professionalism without sacrificing the personal touch! She was magnificent when explaining not only the process but what to expect every step of the way! In my case we encountered some very difficult, emotional situations and Ambry was able to use her knowledge of the law and prior experience to successfully guide me. Ambry while being an exceptional attorney with superior knowledge and experience; most of all she is an outstanding, caring person. Her personal touch and understanding is second to none! I can't say enough how much I appreciate Ambry in my corner during this extremely difficult time! I would highly recommend her to ANYONE who is in need of representation!!

Ambry was and is currently still helping me with my custody case. She not only is an exceptional lawyer- but also made me very comfortable talking about the hardest things dealing with the case. She was very energetic and was on top of everything and I had no worry in the world! Super quick with responses and very thorough in regards to breakdowns of cost and what everything meant! She made a scary situation be less scary and more optimistic. I would recommend her to anyone going through a family case!

Ambry was a beyond fantastic lawyer. If you need fierce legal counsel who will go over and beyond to advocate for her client, look no farther. I spent over a year in communications with her through my custody battle and she always had my child and my best interest in mind. She is vast in her knowledge of family court, always responded in a more than timely fashion, made this process more bareable and never backed down. She answered any and all questions that I had. She gave me realistic and smart options every time. In the end, I could not have been more pleased with the outcome. She stayed poised and organized the entire time. I would recommend her to anyone in need of legal counsel and will continue to use her in the future if there is ever a need.

Ambry helped me through a very delicate child custody/modification case, that I thought would be a long and drawn out matter. Throughout the entire process I felt strongly that I had the right attorney handling my case. She was honest, compassionate and addressed every issue that arose very professionally. I would recommend Ambry to any family member or friend that were having the same issues. Having her representing me through this court process was priceless. My family and I are very thankful for Ambrys assistance throughout this matter.

I was given Christine’s name by a family lawyer and I am so happy they referred me to her firm. I couldn’t ask for a more kind and professional team that truly cares about their clients than her. Anyone who is in charge of taking care of an aging parent should consult her.

Christine provided me with a service that is often overlooked - creating a trust. It is a lot of work but you walk out of Christine's office reassured that every detail was covered. Christine educates as she works with you. The topic is overwhelming but she truly knows her line of law. I have advised her services to friends and familes

I hired Hallie for custody issues with my child who was in 2nd grade at the time. The issues turned out to be very in-depth and complicated. Hallie was always prepared at every turn. When we needed to bring professionals in, Hallie had excellent recommendations who were very good and well qualified. I had worked with several different attorneys in the past that were not able to do for my family what Hallie did. Separately, I also hired Hallie for a divorce. With Hallies help and guidance we were able to keep it an uncontested divorce and for my situation that has proved to work out very well. Now, my ex and I are able to coparent very effectively and our 2 young children are very happy and doing very well in their lives. I am very grateful for Hallie and all the work she has done for me and my family.

I contacted Douglas through Avvo because I was rather tight on money, and wasn't 100% sure if I needed an attorney. After our 15 min call Biggs offered to continue to help me as much as possible. And I am extremely grateful. I was dealing with my first offense misdemeanor charge and wasn't sure how any of this was going to play out. Douglas Biggs was the most honest and helpful lawyer I had spoken with. He offered me invaluable advice and was in contact with me all the way up to my pretrial conference. If it wasn't for the advice and knowledge he bestowed on me, I wouldn't have come out of the courtroom with the outcome I did. I am forever grateful and would without a doubt recommend Biggs to anyone seeking help. He wants to help his clients, not just receive their checks. This meant everything to me. If you are looking to hire an attorney or just consult one, my first recommendation would be Douglas Biggs!

Honesty and integrity aren't two words that you use too often with lawyers, but Doug Biggs has both qualities. He handled my legal matter with great professionalism and effectiveness. I sent him a check for his services, but he did not receive it as expected. So I dropped off a second check. A few weeks later he received the original check due to a mix up with the postal service. He could have easily deposited the check, but instead he called to inform me that he finally received the original check. He shredded the check per my request. Thank you Mr. Biggs. Hopefully I don't need any legal help in the future, but if I do, I will be sure to contact you.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Saint Louis, Missouri?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
