I interned for Mr. mason through the legal studies / paralegal program at my university. He claimed to be offering a paid position, insisting I quit my job in order to be available to him on a full time basis. An eager idiot, I jumped on the "opportunity."
Several weeks passed with no compensation. He was rarely available, as is par for the course with attorneys, yet he seemed to be especially evasive when I brought up the topic of pay. He continued to lead me on for two months.
At this point, he claimed that he "meant" that I would be paid when HE made money, ie when a case closed. (He did personal injury; his slogan could have been "you don't get paid until I do.") I told him how ridiculous and unacceptable these terms would have been; what cases open and close within a 3 month period? At this point, he offered me a continuing position with him following the internship. Again, the flattered idiot clung to the "opportunity."
On the last day of my internship, he withdrew his offer. He said he had a new intern coming in for interview. I said "more free labor, huh?" And he actually had the nerve to laugh in my face.
This guy is unethical, even beyond lawyer standards. He rents a cubicle in the bottom floor of an established firm in order to appear successful. Do not trust!!!
