My wife and I worked with Chris Cox to create a comprehensive estate plan. He was highly knowledgeable and took the time to understand our situation, think through various "what if" situations and provide recommendations that were incredibly helpful. The process was very straight forward and he remained super responsive to all our follow up questions. He also took time to make certain we understood "next steps" around how to fund our trust. We would highly recommend Chris to anyone looking for estate planning services. Amazing experience!

I think this attorney needs more experience under his belt. Wasted my time in a case. Couldn’t take the time to read, or understand documentation correctly. I wouldn’t recommend him to anyone. Took a chance on him, and he bailed after having clear proof from 5 different doctors. He said that he wasn’t experienced enough or has the resources for my case. That I needed to seek a larger law firm with more experienced in malpractice attorney’s. Wow!!

It was a pleasure working with Jim as he handled my rather unusual bankruptcy beautifully! I would highly recommend him to anyone who's in a bankruptcy situation. Very nice gentleman and very easy to work with. The thing I appreciated most was that he was great at keeping me communicated on what was going on with my case.

If you are facing a divorce you are in good hands with HHG and Dzenana Delic. Susan did the Initial consultation and gave me great advice on the beginning, when my ex tried to take the kids. And how to fight a sole custody attempt. Then Dzenana Delic took over my case and I cannot really express how good of a job she did. She told me the truth and what would happen and what I needed to do. It was a long case that was conflict laden to say the least. When it came time to negotiate and settle the case is when I realized how great of a decision I made and how great Dzenana was at her job. We negotiated a great settlement and protected my rights as a single father. If you are facing an ugly divorce and you aren’t sure who to hire I can tell you that if you choose HHG and Dzenana Delic you will be in good hands. Dzenana always answered emails and followed up. I’ll never forget the way I was represented and defended.

Hands down Susan Hais and Caitlin Keene are some of the best Divorce attorneys in St Louis. After going through 3 other attorneys in Jefferson Co and getting the shaft from all of them, my case was a complete joke. I found Susan Hais, she took the case and felt I was clearly not being represented correctly. As you can expect I was about ready to just quit and give up, since being honest and truthful does not seem to get you anywhere these days in court. Susan stepped in and told me what to expect and the real costs worse case, to prove everything to go to trial. I did not want to spend anymore but understood. The first court date with Susan the other Attorney pretty much gave up and settled the case finally, I was amazed how worried and nervous he was, I am not sure what The two amazing Attorneys did to the opposing counsel in the Judges chambers, but it felt good to finally see a day in court going right for a man. During the whole remainder of the case Susan and Caitlin were always understanding of keeping their time time and billed fairly, they really worked for me and got it done. I was impressed and I am happy to highly recommend these two amazing Attorneys to several folks so far and will continue to recommend them to everyone I know who is in need of their services. Thanks again guys!!

I came to Susan when I was kicked out of my home by my husband. She explained everything she could do to help me get what I need to be able to live independently and happy. Susan fought hard for me against my husband’s lawyer. I ended up with more than I ever expected!! Susan and her team are the best!

I hired a surveying company to stake the location of my new house. They completed the survey and provided the paperwork very timely - and I promptly paid them. The location was incorrect however, and that is when my nightmare began. They made several trips and kept placing the house in the wrong location on the lot. The measurements on the paperwork did not match the actual location. They wouldn't answer my calls or meet me at the property. The last straw was when they sent me another bill - marked with a discount for "poor customer service". I was very upset and worried they would take me to court or put a lien on my property. Bryan Douglas put me at ease by explaining the laws for placing a lien. He wrote a letter demanding they refund the money I paid them since they did not provide a satisfactory service. Mr. Douglas was knowledgable and provided prompt, courteous service. He made me feel very comfortable and I would not hesitate to call him if I am ever in need of his services. I highly recommend Brian Douglas.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Town And Country, Missouri?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
