“Loralea and her team were a critical part in helping our family navigate a difficult custody battle. At the end of the day, there is no one else that I would have by my side.”
3
Thorough preparation, attention to detail, and strategic approach
“Loralea was extremely thorough in her preparation for trial. Morgan spent time reading through many pages of evidence up to the last minute that proved to be instrumental at the hearing.”

5
Consistent positive outcomes and successful results for clients
“Against all odds, I was granted custody of my 4-year old son. I don't believe this would have been possible were it not for the hard work and relentless dedication of Loralea and her assistant, Morgan.”
Cons
1
Inconsistent communication and responsiveness at times
“I'm a lawyer myself, and when I have a case in Kearney or western Nebraska that I can't personally handle, I'm very picky about who I trust referrals to. When I send a client to Bergan, I know they're in good hands.”
2
Billing concerns and high fees for some clients
“Charged extremely high rates for things unasked, and unwanted yet didn't bother to show up to half of their hearings where she was required and scheduled.”

Loralea Frank and Morgan have been with me through one of the hardest times in my life. I had originally gone to a different lawyer. The PREVIOUS LAWYERY'S inexperience and refusal to do her job almost resulted in me losing custody of my children to someone who is still facing criminal child abuse charges involving one of our children. Loralea and Morgan got involved and it immediately felt like an adult entered the room. I was finally being informed of what was going on, what paperwork I needed to be filling out, and they were filing on my behalf. They have answered all of my questions in a timely manner. Loralea even suggested a fantastic counselor that I might not have looked into because she's in a different town than I usually go through. Loralea has been a source of great encouragement, an occasional stab in the right direction, and one of the best decisions I've ever made!

Bergan is the only reason I made it through my case. My sons father went out of his way to make things difficult and she went above and beyond to handle it. She is awesome to work with and she'll fight for you! If I ever need legal representation in the future she will be my first call!

I am incredibly grateful to have had Loralea as my attorney for my recent custody case. Her exceptional professionalism, deep knowledge, and unwavering dedication were instrumental in securing favorable judgments from the court. Loralea’s expertise and strategic approach, along with her meticulous attention to detail, made a significant difference in the outcome. She was always well-prepared, articulate, and persuasive, effectively presenting my case with clarity and conviction. Beyond her legal acumen, Loralea provided invaluable support and guidance, always available to answer my questions and address my concerns. Her compassion and empathy made me feel heard and understood during an emotionally challenging time. I highly recommend her to anyone in need of a family law attorney. Thank you, Loralea, for everything you have done for me and my family.

The words to properly express my appreciation and respect for Loralea, and everyone at Bruner Frank, do not exist. I was rebuilding my life, and everyone told me it was going to be impossible to get custody of my little girl, everyone except Loralea. Instead of judging a book by its cover, she listened to my side of the story and told me what our options were, how easy it was not going to be, and most importantly, she told me she got me, that I would have my little girl, and that is exactly what happened. Everyone was meticulously professional, as well as personable, and I never had to worry about where we were at in the process or stress unnecessarily. It has been two years since I was awarded sole legal and physical custody because of Loralea, and my daughter is thriving with me. We could not be happier, and without Loralea and the team of angels she had fighting an impossible battle, we would not be happy where we are today. Bruner Frank did not just provide an elite legal service to my daughter and me, they changed our lives for the better, and we are forever grateful.

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Kearney, Nebraska?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
