I reached out to Nebraska Legal Group to originally get legal advice to navigate a difficult situation with an ex. I had no idea where to start and I felt overwhelmed and lost. Thanks to Alyson Ryan I feel like I can finally breathe. I have heard horror stories about attorney's and she immediately relieved all those worries for me. She is kind and I feel like she actually cares about the work she does and the people she helps. She is very intelligent and super responsive and put all my worries to ease. She was always just a phone call or email away. If anybody else is going through a situationship with an ex. I hands down recommend Alyson to help guide you through the way.

Justin was hired to help my daughter through a very stressful court process in Nebraska. Although we live in another state, which made everything even more difficult, Justin was always available to explain what was happening with the case. He proved to be not only a highly competent & professional attorney, but also a calming and caring influence during the whole ordeal. We will never be able to thank him enough for the wonderful conclusion to my daughter's case ~ he made a huge difference in her life that will never be forgotten. We would definitely recommend him to anyone in need of superior legal representation.

I hired Justin due to having a case of two DUIs four hours apart within one night. I was contacted right away by Justin given DVDs of my DUIs, was kept in the loop the whole time all the while struggling with my addiction to alcohol. I knew exactly what I was walking into he never let me down, always called me back and was a great person including his socks. I would refer him as I already have done to anybody who needs a good lawyer and if anything ever happens again I’m going back to Justin. Thank you!

Was advised to contact the Berry Lawfirm after a DUI arrest. Justin was given my case after an initial phone consult with a different attorney. Only had one minor issue with a meeting, Justin was out of town and I wasn't contacted. I waited an hour in the office for my meeting and was finally told it wasn't happening. I would have dropped a star but Justin phoned later to apologize and took responsibility when he could have pushed it onto his support staff. When we finally did meet I could tell he had put in time analyzing the evidence in my case, he clearly explained the worst case/best case outcomes and gave me some ideas to help my side (LPT: When an attorney says something might help, do it!). While waiting for my court date I was kept abreast of what the prosecutor was willing to offer a no contest plea and was 90% sure of the sentence before setting foot in the courtroom. My sentence was the lightest possible by law, much to the shock of everyone including Justin. I would recommend Justin to any of my family or friends without hesitation, were I to ever need an attorney again (hopefully not!) Justin will be the first one I call.

After receiving a work related injury, the third party administrator stopped paying for the injury stating it was no longer covered. After contacting David and working through my case, I knew he would provide excellent service. After multiple surgeries and set backs, David has been with me every step of the way. David has always been straight forward with me regarding my case, but the empathetic service he provides is outstanding. I would highly recommend David to anyone searching for an attorney when battling work related injuries. Thank you David and great job!

Greg is an amazing guy and an excellent attorney. He went out of his way to make sure I was taken care of while the case was ongoing and I was recovering from multiple surgeries as a result of my accident. He was really with me every step of the way. The office staff is amazing and really cares about what happens to you. In the end he got me a good settlement with a very hard case and not a lot of available funds. I am glad I chose Abboud and would recommend them to anyone looking for a personal injury attorney.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Lincoln, Nebraska?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
