I hired Michael Carman on a referral from my trust attorney in NV. Mike and I met on a Monday, I hired him on the spot, my complaint was filed 3 days later and he and his team (Maria, Missy, Emma, Stephanie and Robin) worked diligently to successful gain an annulment for me in 35 days!! Mike is crystal clear, to the point & most importantly does NOT waste your time or money. Mike is very approachable and available. He ONLY wants what is best for the client and encourages his clients to move on when the divorce is done. This was the BEST experience I have ever had with an attorney. Thank you Mike and team.

Mike partnered with Corinne in 2016, They are currently and have been working on my case for over a year. He has been a great asset to me with my family law case(child support, custody, and evaluations). The circumstances of my case still bring us to court because of my ex . With his abilities, Mike was able to get the court to see my side and help my children. I recommend Mike and Corinne at The Fine, Carman & Price Family Las Attorneys to anyone looking for a family attorney.

I actually met Michael by accident. I was a single father trying to get custody of his son after my girlfriend was advised by legal council to leave the state without consent. The way the laws were written, there are nearly no protections afforded single fathers. I was actually using a different lawyer, and due to a very biased judge, I was only allowed to see my son 9 days a month, and I was ordered to pay $693 a month Child support. Michael worked very hard on our appeal to the state supreme court, and while we were not able to overturn the decision of the original judge (one who is no longer serving as a family judge in the state of Nevada), we were able to get legislation introduced to help cement the rights of unwed fathers in Nevada. I see the people that gave him low reviews complained that he overcharged them. I can't speak for that, but I can tell you that he did all the work on my case, which would have been well in excess of $100k completely Pro Bono. While he was unable to get help for me, I do not believe it was due to anything he did wrong, but due to an incorrect decision by the state Supreme Court of the State of Nevada.

I spent two years trying to come to a cordial agreement with my ex-wife, specifically on establishing paternity with my daughter. I continued to pay child support without missing a payment, but I needed to establish paternity jurisdiction as she was frequently moving around in the Las Vegas valley, talking about leaving to other states, then dodging phone calls and meetings with me while I was trying to get something formal in place. Both attorneys I hired before Michael Carman simply gave up as my ex-wife moved to a military base, making it very difficult to get her served. Michael Carman however, knew a process server who worked with me to finally get her served. I will never forget how good that day felt. After which, he was an excellent liaison between my ex-wife and I until we came to a mutual agreement, and we were able to resolve the issue peacefully. I will definitely be working with Michael Carman in the future, and would certainly recommend him as a great attorney to anyone who could use his expertise.

If anyone has experienced the fleecing and price gouging that I personally encountered from attorney Michael Carman (formerly of Law Offices of Kunin and Carman), there is recourse! I received a binding DECISION yesterday from the Nevada fee dispute program in the amount of $11,257.50! While it doesn't cover the full $21,000.00 I lost, it's a start. They even point out that he dropped my case on the eve of my trial. Save yourself the hassle!.... but more importantly a panel of His peers saw it my way (2 attorney's and 1 lay person ). Case #FD15-06* if readers are interested. They also address his excessive fees. Quote: Michael Carman's "charge of 4% to cover costs is determined to be excessive and unreasonable and therefore NOT ALLOWED in light of the fact that Respondent (Carman) charged for ALL itemized expenses." "All work negotiations and preparation for trial were WITHOUT merit and of NO value".

I’m not one to let someone handle my business, but getting into an accident is stressful. And when you have to deal with insurance, that makes it much worse. I knew I was going to need help. I was so lucky to find Hammond & Hammond. I worked with Tyler and his team who worked very hard for me. He is reliable, very communicative, knowledgeable, and is more than happy to explain the process every step of the way. The price is very reasonable for the quality I received. I hope to never have another accident again, but I know where to go if I do. I can’t thank them enough for all their hard work.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Henderson, Nevada?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
