I was introduced to Lynn when she participated in our local "Ask a Lawyer" program. This is the very first lawyer that I've talked to who was straight to the point and exceptionally honest about my chances of winning custody of my baby. I wanted to hire her as my lawyer but she only does pro-bono work or substitute work for other attorney's. She is not accepting clients. With her help, I now know what to look for in an attorney and will accept only those who can be critically honest with me and who won't waste my money or get my hopes up only to have them shattered in court.

Lynn’s help and experience restored my faith in the justice system. Not only is she knowledgeable about child custody, she will share her knowledge with you. Lynn often says that “knowledge is power.” She is right. She will help you understand the legal process so that you become comfortable in or out of court. After a recent hearing, I had no idea of what really happened. Lynn spent the time that I needed to understand the judge’s decision and effective ways for me to move successfully forward. If you're seeking legal help as a child custody client, call Lynn today.

She's so smart about the law. Her Motion was brilliant. BUT, it took 2 months to get her to write it. The charges are crazy. As soon as my case came to a critical point, she stopped taking my calls and had a paralegal call and say, "Lynn said this case is taking more work than she thought so she's going to need another $7000 before she does anything else." What? She was still working on the current retainer! And she waits until I'm in a dire situation where minutes count to have a flunky tell me this! Then she wouldn't give me my records--a clear violation of the statute--until a month later when she said she'd be happy to for $250--another violation of the statute. Don't get me started on my original lawyer Damian--never heard from him after I signed the retainer check. RUN away from this firm! Good luck finding a reparable attorney in Las Vegas. It's a crap shoot.

Thorough and detailed approach in handling cases, with a focus on understanding the client's situation
“Lynn not only showed me additional details but was thorough in every detail. Those details were the details and thoroughness that was needed to make me feel confident in my case.”
2
Excellent communication and responsiveness, providing updates and explanations in a timely manner
“I never had a concern about communication she responds and she does in a reasonable time frame and not from random office staff that doesn't know anything.”
3
Passionate and dedicated to the law and to achieving the best results for clients
“She's all about down to business and get results. Hiring Lynn for your divorce is a great decision, and you won't get a better, and more passionate attorney in the courtroom.”
4
Provides valuable legal knowledge and guidance to help clients understand the process and make informed decisions
“Lynn often says that 'knowledge is power.' She is right. She will help you understand the legal process so that you become comfortable in or out of court.”
Cons
1
Concerns about billing practices, with reports of unexpected or excessive fees
“She suckered me into spending heaps of money and all I got was more head aches in a time that was already extremely emotional and painful.”
2
Instances of poor communication and lack of responsiveness, including not showing up for court appearances
“Attorney did not show up in court. Did a no show. Charged outrageous hourly fee for an example $100 to send an email. Charges for leaving voicemail. Office assistant very rude and abusive asking for money when monies has been paid. Never return phone calls.”

I was recommended to Julia and VIP Law after getting rear ended by a driver under the influence. Within a few months I was paid the maximum coverage from the drivers insurance. She was good at communicating and kept me up to date every step of the way. I would recommend VIP Law to anyone.

I have had the worst luck with car accidents but the best luck with my attorney. Julia has been nothing but helpful, informative, and honest. I’ve gotten into 3 car accidents in 2 years and have gone back to her every time. She handles matters quickly and efficiently while not leaving out any details. I’d hope to not be in any more car accidents but if I was, I’d go VIP Law!

Gabrielle Jones is a compassionate, professional attorney that works hard for her clients. I am fortunate to have been referred to her, and I don't think anyone could have handled my divorce, custody, and support issues as seamlessly as she did. She took SO much weight off my shoulders. I HIGHLY recommend her!

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Las Vegas, Nevada?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
