I was referred to Mr. Modafferi by a friend who had previously had excellent results with him. I called his office number, and was told by the peeson who answered the phone, that Mr. Modafferi was not available because he was in court, so left my name and number and asked for him to call me. In situations like this, hoping and waiting for call back is not what you want to do, however, I was pleased to receive a call beack from Mr. Modaferri less than 3 hours later. He was very friendly and seemed to be detail oriented. He then scheduled an appointment the next evening, which was actually after their normal business hours. After going through the facts of my case, he assured me that he would would make my experience as stress free as possible. This was an understatement. Gary was very good about returning my calls, and keep me up to date and informed with what was going on with my case. Gary won my case, and obtained a result that put the issue to rest for good. His rates a very reasonable. I hope that I never need his services again, but if I do, I will go back to him without any second thought. I highly recommend him to anyone.

I hired Gary for my son in his juvenile court case. I cannot say enough about this man. He truly had our back and gave our case 100%. He always updated us and was always in touch. Whenever I would call and request information, I got a call back right away explaining all information. He also made us feel at ease going through this process as he is such a loving and caring individual. He walked us through this process step by step. It was never about money in this case, Gary made it about what was right and did everything in his power to fight. We made the right choice and would definitely recommend Gary.

I never had to hire any type of Attorney before my case and I made a great choice. I found Gary, thanks to Von the computer genius, who told us how amazing he was. I was facing serious Felonies and didn't know what to expect. Gary actually gave us his personal phone so we could get a hold of him and ask him anything we needed! That was probably the best thing to happen during the case as he kept us at ease and answered any questions no matter how silly they sounded. Before Preliminary, he told us the possible outcomes and kept everything real with us, he fought for my case and gave me and my Family our lives back. Thanks to him we can breath again, hes also very friendly and just a great guy in general. I highly recommend Mr. Modaferri, you cant go wrong with him!

Attorney, Gary Modafferi, is a rare attorney in the field of criminal defense. Whether a case is in the State court, or the federal courts, he has an understanding of appellate procedures unlike many trial attorneys. He is impeccably honest, passionate and dedicated. I have come to know him over the years and honestly trust him like no other attorneys my friends and family have ever met. I am humbled and most grateful that he took my case and with his help and insight I will soon win my fight for my freedom.

I stumbled upon Tom and Co. via Google search and I was not disappointed. Highly and very competent Lawyers, that will fight for every penny you deserve. I highly recommend! Tom and Tara are very friendly and responds back within 24horua with any questions. Tom was able to negotiate my medical fees down to 40% which means I was able to pocket more. Great people and overall took about a year (due to the other insurance playing games) but overall I got what was deserved. Thank you Tom and Co.

I contacted another law firm for a personal injury claim. They referred me to Adam. He is on the ball, responsive, assertive, and attentive. Within literally 2 hours of meeting with him the first time, he had opened the insurance claims, arranged medical care for me. He has no problem returning calls himself, usually within minutes. Can't say enough good things about him.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Las Vegas, Nevada?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
